A Victorian-era estate on Melbourne’s fringe where popular children’s television series The Saddle Club was filmed has hit the market.

Parts of the ABC show were shot around the stables at the 6.55ha Doreen property listed for$4.7m to $5.1m.

Young Hemsworth brothers Chris and Luke each appeared in a single episode of the joint Australian-Canadian production, which was based on Bonnie Bryant’s books.

The Hemsworth brothers’ feature in the show Saddle Club catapulted them to fame, with a string of acting gigs following their stint on the program.

They are now Hollywood celebrities, owning multi‑million‑dollar properties, with Chris one of the first to help drive rapid growth in the NSW town of Byron Bay, where he lives with his family.

65 Daisy Hill Rd, Doreen, is selling via an expressions of interest campaign closing on June 9.

Chris’s high‑profile move put a global spotlight on Byron Bay’s prestige market, amplifying demand for beachfront and hinterland homes and elevating price expectations for architect‑designed compounds.

The brothers’ accumulating portfolios reflect a broader pattern of Australian screen talent favouring real estate as a store of wealth, diversifying across sought‑after coastal enclaves and prime city postcodes.

Their trajectory—from a breakout TV moment and a run of marquee roles to high‑value bricks‑and‑mortar—illustrates how star power can shape suburb appeal.

The stables are part of a 6.55ha property featuring a renovated circa 1865 home with a wraparound veranda.

It followed the lives of three best friends training for equestrian competitions at the fictional Pine Hollow Stables.

Chris Hemsworth played vet George Whiteside in a series two episode, originally aired in 2003.

Not captured on screen was the circa 1865 homestead that forms the centrepiece of 65 Daisy Hill Rd, Doreen.

The five-bedroom house has been sympathetically extended and modernised over time to offer flexible family living on a grand scale.

It’s surrounded by equestrian facilities, including a 540m trotting track and riding arena, a self-contained one-bedroom cottage, swimming pool, floodlit tennis court and in-ground trampoline.

The formal lounge has an open fireplace and French doors on to the veranda.

Chris and Luke Hemsworth both appeared in episodes of The Saddle Club.

Jellis Craig, Eltham listing agent Aaron Yates said an original mudstone well was another quirky feature that been converted into a wine cellar accessed via a secret door.

“The property’s got beautiful land and some very gentle undulation and it’s got incredible views of the Great Diving Range but the actual home itself is pretty enchanting,” Mr Yates said.

“The last renovation was done in 2010 and it’s been fully extended. There’s potential there for self-contained accommodation for extra family and it’s probably the versatility of the home that’s one of the key features.

“It has got a guest wing in the house and it’s a separate cottage and it’s got tonnes of character but then is still very modern.”

The kitchen has been updated with modern appliances and a central island bench.

The one-bedroom cottage has its own laundry, kitchen/meals area and living room.

The first-floor main bedroom suite has a dedicated study and a private balcony.

He said the previous owners at the time of The Saddle Club filming were into racehorses, while the vendors currently agisted horses, taking advantage of the nine paddocks and six horse stables.

They have also recently resurfaced the trotting track, which doubled as a running track for the family.

“The husband and son were both into running so they named it the Doreen Tan during Covid,” Mr Yates said.

You can even ride your horse down to the local cafe, just a few minutes away, he said.

Expressions of interest close on June 9.
