A two-acre home that was completely ripped apart by squatters is going to auction today, after a long sales journey that involved the discovery of a stolen BMW.
The Slacks Creek home at 476-478 Loganlea Rd has been on the market for less than a week, and has already seen 15 interested buyers across just two open homes.
While it once had six bedrooms and two bathrooms, the interiors of the house and shed have been completely ripped apart.
476-478 Loganlea Rd, Slacks Creek, is a two-acre property that’s seen squatters strip it completely bare.
The property is going to auction again at midday, after the first campaign involved the discovery of a stolen BMW in the shed.
Walls, lights and pipes had been completely removed, and the home was even missing stairs to its second floor.
Now, only the shell of the house remains, having been covered in graffiti over the years.
Yet the house is still expected to sell, with Ray White Rochedale director Azhar Omar saying he’d seen serious interest in the home as a knockdown rebuild.
“What you see is what you get,” he said. “We’re not sugar-coating everything, the property needs a complete renovation.”
The interior of the buildings on the property are missing everything, including walls, pipes and even some stairs.
The abandoned home was originally being rented out by investors, but covered in graffiti and left to squatters.
“A lot of the buyers see value in the land … I have had a few people who own a truck business. Because of the land they’re looking for that, [potentially] for parking.”
Owned by investors who had previously rented it out, the home went on the market last year and passed in for $1.1 million at auction.
During that auction campaign, a police officer who was interested in buying the property asked to see the shed – where they discovered a brand new BMW inside, which had been stolen by someone who was squatting in the home.
A police officer interested in buying the property asked to inspect the shed, where he found a brand new stolen BMW.
It is alleged squatters moved back in and locked the gates with a chain between campaigns.
Since that time, squatters reportedly moved back into the property for the time, causing police to monitor the space during the latest auction campaign.
“When we went there, even this time, the gates were chained and locked,” Mr Omar said. “We had to get people to come and cut it – but I actually think it was a squatter that came and locked the gate.”
The home is expected to sell with around 15 interested buyers across just two open homes, with interested parties valuing the area for its land or its rebuild potential.
Interested parties can find the auction taking place at The Glen Hotel in Eight Mile Plains, at 12pm.
Mr Omar added he expected the location to be the main appeal of the property, being near the city and less than 10 minutes from Logan Hospital.
“Two find 2 acres close to suburbs, close to hospitals, close to schools, is incredible,” he said.
The property’s auction will take place at 12pm in The Glen Hotel, found in Eight Mile Plains.
