A Davoren Park house advertised for rent at $1000 a week has left the public “gobsmacked”, with the price described as “taking the p**s”.
The northern suburbs property at 35 Evergreen Drive is under the spotlight after an Adelaide buyers’ agent took to social media to not only explain it but express his own shock.
Propsavvy buyers agency founder Cory Harding said in a video on Instagram that “crazy stuff like this” would become more common if the federal budget was passed.
“I never would have thought we’d see this in Davoren Park,” he said in the video.

“If the new federal budget does go through, we’re going to expect to see a lot more of this to cover the costs of the negative gearing that won’t be in play.
“The key question here is, will it get tenanted? Will someone pay $1000 a week?
“If it gets tenanted it sets a precedent for the suburb.”
Latest PropTrack data shows the median advertised rent for a house in Davoren Park is $500 per week.

The Evergreen Drive property is new with a four-bedroom house and two-bedroom attached granny flat on a 450sqm block.
But that wasn’t enough to convince people its rent and $6000 bond was justified.
“I saw this the other day when it was listed and I was gobsmacked,” one person said on social media.
The property has six bedroom and three bathrooms.
“It is six bedrooms – if it’s housemates and not a family, could be affordable – but still,” said another.
Many were adamant it wouldn’t rent at that price, with one person convinced the advertisement was “taking the p**s, surely”.
Others joked about it, with some suggesting it would need to offer much more if they were to pay that price.
“How the f**k did they get a six bedroom house on a 450sqm block? Rooms must all be the size of a broom closet,” one person said.
“I’d want castle wall, moat with saltwater crocs at that price,” said another.
Mr Harding said when contacted for further comment that it was hard to find homes with six bedrooms and there was strong demand for properties with four.
He said there was also a mindshift happening in areas like Davoren Park that historically have had a negative reputation.
The property is new and on a 450sqm block.
Harcourts Shine principal Ryan Narayan, who is advertising the rental, said the “very negative misconceptions” people once had about Davoren Park were unfair.
With the northern connector making it easier to access the suburb and those surrounding it, as well as many new builds in the area, Mr Narayan said it was a completely different place.
“It’s not the same Davoren Park it used to be,” he said.
“A lot of investors and first-home buyers are moving to Davoren Park.”
Mr Narayan said paying $600 to $650 a week in rent was normal for a four bedroom home in the area, while granny flats often rented for a few hundred dollars so $1000 a week for a six-bedroom property wasn’t unjustified.
