12 Railway Pde, Nerang

A four-bedroom freestanding house with a backyard on the Gold Coast priced within reach of first-home buyers is tipped to be hotly contested at a bumper auction event this weekend.

The 1980s-built shack in Nerang will go under the hammer at Ray White’s Auction Experience, standing out as a rare detached house expected to sell below the suburb’s $1.05m median.

While the property at 12 Railway Pde is marketed as a potential development site, agent Paris-Bella White said it was just as likely to attract priced-out renters desperate to finally get a foothold in the market.

It’s marketed as a development site

“It’d be perfect for a young family who just wants to get on the property ladder,” Ms White said.

“It’s not much to look at and it’s obviously not the Taj Mahal, but it’s potentially someone’s dream home, so I expect a lot of long-term renters to be bidding on this one.”

Set on a 506sqm block, the house is dated but liveable, offering buyers the option to renovate, rebuild or just move in, a flexibility Ms White said was fuelling strong interest.

The property last sold for $410,000 in 2019, and was last listed to rent at $725 a week in 2024.

There’s even a backyard

Nerang’s median house price jumped 15.8 per cent in the past year alone, PropTrack data shows.

Zoned for medium-density residential use, the site could also suit a boutique duplex or townhouse project, but Ms White said owner-occupiers were firmly in the mix.

“Nerang has absolutely shed its old reputation as being on the wrong side of the tracks,” she said.

“With a million-dollar median house price, that shows that investment is coming into the area and people are wanting the Hinterland lifestyle that’s still only 15 minutes back to the beach.

“I’d love to see a young family grab this one and start their real estate journey.”

It’s among hot listings at the Ray White Auction Experience
