2/8 Farnham Court, Craigieburn, has a new owner following a weekend auction.
A Craigieburn homeowner was overjoyed when his house unexpectedly sold for $113,000 above reserve on the weekend.
Ray White’s Nick Fernandez said the three-bedroom home at 2/8 Farnham Court attracted about five bidders, including some from interstate who participated in the auction online.
The abode changed hands for $613,000, a sum six figures above the $500,000 reserve, with a first homebuyer claiming the keys.

“The owner’s over the moon and so is the buyer,” Mr Fenrandez said.
Since January, other similar homes in the neighbourhood have sold for between $450,000 to $520,000, so Mr Fenrandez said that both he and his vendor were surprised but delighted by auction’s result.
Owner Peter Rowe said he had lived at the residence since 2013, after buying it a few years earlier but then working interstate.
He initially started looking for a place to call his own in Craigieburn, in Melbourne’s outer north, because it suited his budget at the time.
The “nice and bright” house with a renovated kitchen was sought after by five bidders.
The low-maintenance backyard provides a green space and a clothesline.
After inspecting a few “renovator’s delights”, the Farnham Court house won him over because it was “nice and bright” with a large living and dining area, and main bedroom.
“The original kitchen was a similar layout but I had that redone and it’s been a lot better since,” Mr Rowe said.
Although the home looks like a townhouse, he said it was actually completely separate from the property next door and had no body corporate.
“I like the local area, especially in the first few years here when it was like a semi-country area,” he added.
Mr Rowe said he had decided to sell because he’s planning to downsize and move closer to where his sister lives but he will miss the Craigieburn church he is involved with.
The home is close to local schools, shopping centres, parklands and public transport.
An Art Deco complex at 1 and 2/38 Alexandra St, South Yarra, also sold on the weekend.
Closer to Melbourne’s CBD, an Art Deco apartment duplex at 1 and 2/38 Alexandra St, South Yarra, also sold under the hammer.
Morrell and Koren buyer’s advocate Matthew Cleverdon, who attended the auction on behalf of a client, said four bidders competed to secure the address that was listed with Buxton’s Harley Toyle and Jay Bear.
“The property sold for $1.7m and was placed on the market at $1.6m,” Mr Cleverdon said.
The successful buyer is planning to build a house on the site.
