Construction on a new Mount Barker community that will add hundreds of homes to the fast-growing Adelaide Hills town has officially started.

The $180m Senses development will have 254 homes, with more than 40 yet-to-be-built residences already sold since it launched late last year.

Roads, services and earthworks for the development’s reserves will be built first.

Initial civil works, which will be undertaken by Winslow Contractors, were expected to be finished by the end of the year.

Construction on the first homes in the development will start later this year, with builder partners including Fairmont, Simonds, Henley, Weeks and Metricon.

Buyers can either pick from a range of house and land packages or purchase land then build with their chosen home builder.

Expressions of interest for the Evoke cottage homes, which were developed with Fairmont, open this week and are priced from $565,983.

Designed by a team of urban designers and landscape architects, the development will also have inclusive, accessible and connected community spaces for everyone to share.

Senses project director Anthony Andolfatto said starting work so quickly after the launch showed just how confident buyers were in the development.

“With the first releases selling exceptionally well, we’re excited to bring this community one step closer to reality,” Mr Andolfatto said.

“We are attracting a wide range of buyers, including first-home buyers, growing families and downsizers, which will create a diverse and cohesive community.

“We are continuing to sell land lots and house and land packages with a variety of lot sizes and housing options on offer and further releases planned throughout the year.”

Work starting follows the Labor Government’s announcement that it would invest $200m in new Mount Barker educational, health, transport and community facilities if it is re-elected.

Landcap Development’s executive director David Allington said future residents of Senses would have everything on their doorstep.
