88 The Avenue, Coburg, has new owners after selling at a weekend auction.
Three siblings marked the end of an era when their Coburg childhood home sold for $1.43m on the weekend.
And the buyers made a bold call to bid despite having first visited just before it went under the hammer, though were clearly expecting to claim the keys with their father bringing champagne to celebrate.
John Kleores, along with his sister Helen and brother Paul, farewelled their late parents’ house at 88 The Avenue.

Melbourne auctions: Pascoe Vale buyer’s shock reaction
An emotional auction saw the trio bid goodbye to the double-fronted, three-bedroom home which their mother Margaret and father Con bought in the 1950s.
Mr Kleores said Con, a carpenter, had renovated the abode and also planted a vegetable patch and grapevine in the rear garden.
“They loved their yard and took pride in it,” Mr Kleores added.
His cherished memories of the house include sitting with his family under the backyard’s lemon tree, heading off on caravanning holidays for Christmas and enjoying Saturday lunches with three generations from grandparents to grandchildren.
“Mum was a great cook and the house always smelled amazing,” Mr Kleores said.
John Kleores’ father Con renovated the house, including the kitchen, using his carpentry knowledge.
Siblings Paul, Helen and John celebrate following the auction.
The backyard holds plenty of family memories.
During his younger years, Gilmours Dairy – now a park – was located on land behind the house.
Growing up, he would join his friends and siblings at the dairy where they helped clean out the stables of the horses who helped deliver the milk.
“If you got up early you could go on the milk run,” Mr Kleores recalled.
Upon becoming an adult, he purchased and renovated a home just a few doors away from his parents, who would often pop in to visit their grandkids.
He said Saturday’s sale was both sad and exciting for his family.
“It’s the end of an era,” Mr Kleores added.
Timber floors, high decorative ceilings, a picket-fence in the front garden and a veranda add to the home’s charm.
The abode is close to public transport, shops, restaurants, Gilmour Park, Merri-bek Primary School and Moreland Kindergarten.
Rendina Real Estate director Lou Rendina said three bidders took part in the auction which delivered a “great result” after the house was listed with a $1.3m-$1.4m range.
“It sold to a beautiful young family who just turned up and hadn’t seen the home before,” Mr Rendina noted.
The father of one of the buyers even brought some champagne along which he popped in a post-auction celebration, inside the abode.
Mr Rendina added that a crowd of local residents had turned out to watch the auction, with The Avenue being a tightly-held street.
