Mountains of rubbish, clothing and various household items proved of little deterrent at the competitive auction of a dilapidated rural Victorian home, which sold for less than $80,000.
Twelve bidders battled it out to snap up the Maroona property under the hammer for $79,000, marking one of the cheapest sales across Australia during the month of June, sales data from realestate.com.au has revealed.
It's just a fraction of the national median house price, which was $903,000 in June according to PropTrack.

Trashed home takes title as nation's cheapest
The listing and the photos of 12 Helendoite Road in Maroona made no secret of the fact the three bedroom, one bathroom weatherboard home was strictly for sale “as is, walk-in, walk-out.”

This meant the new owners would also take ownership of the rubbish and various items strewn throughout the property.
Sales agent David Jennings from Elders Real Estate Ararat said the deceased estate had been left in “rack and ruin.”

Set on an 804sqm block in a tiny town of just 80 people according to the latest Census, the listing noted it offered an affordable opportunity for a “substantial renovation or explore the option of a knockdown and rebuild.”
The new owners, who are local to the area, have plans to renovate the property.
$80k NSW house sold in a matter of hours
Two hours is all it took for this two bedroom fibro cottage in north west New South Wales to go under offer.
Sales agent Shane Russell from Schute Bell Badgery Lumby said the $80,000 sale of 9 Short Street, Bourke was among three homes bought by one company at once in the area.

He said the company plans to renovate all three homes for investment purposes.
“They just get snapped up because the right people want them and they fight over them,” Mr Russell said.
Qld one-bedroom renovators delight
A one bedroom, one bathroom property with “room to improve” was the cheapest property to change hands in Queensland, selling for $105,000.
Located in the outback Queensland town of Quilpie, 67 Pegler Street attracted interest from people in and around Brisbane, keen to move west and renovate the home, sales agent Jack Biddle from Nutrien Harcourts GDL said.

“I had a few offers, a lot of low ball offers to start with, and then I sort of talked the vendor down to where the price was that we sold it at,” he said.
The new owner is moving to the area for retirement.
Swift sale in Victorian border town
It took barely two weeks for this aptly titled ‘renovators challenge’ two bedroom weatherboard cottage to sell for $130,000.
Located at 80 Wallace Street, in the Victorian town of Apsley, sales agent Lee Curnow from Elders Real Estate Naracoorte said the home listing attracted more than 20 enquiries.

“Part of the reason is that Apsley is such a small place, and it's not too far from Melbourne, and there's actually a bit of demand for houses in little towns like that,” he said.
The new owners’ long list of repair works include adding completed walls to one room and connecting water to the bathroom.
South Australia’s cheapest sale
No interior photos were published of this decommissioned home in the rural South Australian town of Monash.
Selling for $190,000, sales agent Aaron Willis from Ray White Riverland said the home at 28 Eastern Road no longer had an electricity connection and it was offered for sale as a rare landholding with future potential.

However, the interstate buyers have plans to salvage the stone facade of the home and rebuild.
Tasmanian charm
In Tasmania, an original Highlands home in popular Tods Corner was snapped up at auction for $150,000.
Set on a 2068sqm block, 375 Tods Corner Road was in a poor almost state of disrepair, Sales agent Nick Hay from Howell Property Group said.
“It's a very basic four room structure and from that you are starting from scratch,” he said.
“The big selling point was the location.”

The owners have plans to restore the home and potentially use it as a short accommodation offering.
One acre block in WA
In Western Australia, a fully fenced sprawling block with a one bedroom, one bathroom dwelling in WA's Mid-West sold for $110,000.

Located at 21 Caufield Place, Irwin, the listing noted it required some “love and attention” and was an opportunity to renovate and restore, or establish a new home on the property.
Affordable apartment in the nation's capital
One of the cheapest homes in the ACT last month was 61/3 Waddell Place, Curtin, which sold for $291,000.
