If you’re embarking on the journey of building a new home, listening to some industry experts and chatting with builders is a great way to get started on your plans.

With 54 display homes from 14 different building companies to explore, market updates from realestate.com.au, and free advice from land developers and finance experts about the entire new home building process, the HomeWorld EXPO at HomeWorld Thornton offers ample inspiration.

The expo offers people the opportunity to learn about the process, ask questions, gain an understanding of how construction loans work, and chat with builders about various options—whether that relates to customizing designs or exploring house and land packages.

“It is a great way to explore all your options and see what is possible,” says Trudi Busch, Chief Marketing Officer of HomeWorld Group of Companies.

“Then, you can step inside the builders' display homes to experience what it would be like to live in a brand-new home.

"Additionally, you can discuss costs, promotions, and other designs that are not on display with the builders.”

Ready to get started on your dream home? Now is the time to empower yourself with the latest info.

4 of the hottest new-home trends in 2024

Once you understand the process, you can take a walk around the village and explore the display homes to see which designs you like.

Here are some of our favourite design features in these new homes that we think are worth checking out:

  1. Pet Laundries:
From walk-in doggy showers to spa-like amenities, laundries that cater to the furry friends in our lives are growing in popularity and are a great potential addition to your building plans. They can also offer a cosy spot for pets to sleep inside the home.
  2. Cutting edge sloping block designs:
Teaming up with a builder who specialises in sloping blocks will help you maximise your block’s potential. They will customise your home design to fit the unique features of your land, saving you time and money. HomeWorld Thornton has builders showcasing contemporary, trend-setting home designs for sloping block inspiration.
  3. Granny flats:
Whether you need to expand your living space or accommodate an intergenerational household, incorporating a granny flat into your new home build can be a great option. You can find inspiration from both integrated and stand-alone granny flats on display.
  4. The latest in fittings, finishes, colours, and materials:
Textures, colours, and materials can significantly enhance the overall feel of a home, beyond just the structure and architectural design.

So, ensure you really immerse yourself in what’s available to determine what you do and don’t like. Seeing as many options in person as possible is a great way to start your planning.

8 hacks for planning your dream home at HomeWorld EXPO

With so much new home design inspiration out there, you’re going to want to turn your inspiration and info gathering into practical steps that are not only manageable but also efficient and enjoyable.

Here are our top tips on how to organise what you discover and explore from the HomeWorld EXPO team:

  1. Take notes:
Join the info sessions and write down any questions that might pop into your head during the presentations.
Do this on your phone or take a notebook and pen – you’ll thank yourself later when trying to remember specific points.
  2. Chat to the experts:
At the end of the sessions, use your notes to chat with the presenters or take your questions to builders.
They have sales teams onsite, ready to help and can answer all questions – no matter how curly.
  3. Land your dream plot:
If you’re there to learn about land, visit the land developers at their pop-up stands. They can explain what land is currently available and what land releases are upcoming.
You can also join their mailing lists to stay informed about new and upcoming projects.
  4. Knock down and rebuild:
Many builders onsite are experts in the knockdown and rebuild process. They can explain what’s involved, how to maximise your land, current council regulations, and what designs could work on your block.
Chatting with builders at an early planning stage can save you time and money down the track.
  5. Capture content:
Record videos and images as you go along. Capture specific design features you like, such as a mudroom, or broader trends such as colours, tiles, floor plans, and landscaping.
Recording these elements will help shape your own plans.
  6. Get the names of designs and building companies:
Take a photo of the home design name in front of each home, as well as a photo of the actual home, so you know which designs you liked.
  7. Ask about modifications:
Discuss with the builder’s sales teams how you can modify floor plans to tailor the designs to suit your needs or land.
  8. Visit the expo website:
While onsite, you can also visit the HomeWorld website and create your favourites list as you go along. This way, you’ll have an easy reference of what homes you visited and added to your shortlist. Check it out here: HomeWorld Thornton.

HomeWorld Expo kicks off on 27 October, 2024 from 10am until 4pm.

Homeworld

HomeWorld was established in 1986 by a group of competing builders united by a common goal/purpose: to help people who were planning to build a new home. They created destinations where visitors explore display homes, see the latest in new home design, and speak directly with different builders about their options. Today, HomeWorld features more than 45 builders across five locations in NSW – Box Hill, Marsden Park, Leppington, Warnervale, and Thornton – with over 350 homes on display.
