NRL superstar Darren Lockyer’s former house is once again going on the market, after it was last sold for a whopping $6.4 million.
The home at 23 Agars St, Paddington, belonged to the Brisbane Broncos icon for more than a decade.
Lockyer and his his wife Loren bought the property in 2012 for $1.125m, and lived together there for nine years.
Brisbane Broncos legend Darren Lockyer’s old home is once again up for sale, after a previous sale of $6.4 million.
The current Broncos board member and former player built his “contemporary, Tuscan” home in 2015 for his family, shortly after he retired from playing in the NRL.
Lockyer told News Corp in 2018 the home had “a contemporary, Tuscan feel to it”, and appreciated the years he spent there with his family after his retirement from the NRL.
“The location is great for our kids,” he said. “It’s also close to cafes, restaurants and parks.”
The house was built in 2015, and sold to a local family for $6.4m in 2024.
It then saw a renovation which included a new kitchen, electric system and driveway, a full repaint and a restoration of the roof.
The vendors, a couple with one child, decided to sell when they saw the home was more suited to a larger family who could better manage the space.
23 Agars St, Paddington, has five bedrooms and two bathrooms, spread across a single level on a 1,628 sqm block.
It was designed by architects Paul Owen and Michael Lineburg, who received awards for their work on the house.
The property is a flat one-level home on 1,628 sqm of land: a rare size for a house so close to the city.
With five bedrooms and two bathrooms, the building was designed as a series of long hallways and undercrofts, connecting central living spaces and rooms that lead to two segmented backyard spaces.
The home is also equipped with a swimming pool, landscaped gardens and solar power with battery storage, along with remote-controlled entry gates leading into the private carpark.
The property was originally bought by the Lockyers for $1.125m in 2012. It latest owners conducted a restoration of the house, repainting it and installing new features.
Place Kangaroo Point agent Simon Caulfield said a renowned home of this size so close to the city was “something we just don’t see very often”.
Designed by architects Paul Owen and Michael Lineburg, the house received the Robin Dods Award for Residential Architecture from that year.
Place Kangaroo Point is in charge of the sale through agents Simon Caulfield and Courtney Caulfield.
“This is Darren Lockyer’s former family home, so there’s an immediate emotional connection for a lot of people,” Mr Caulfield said. “But beyond the name, buyers are responding to what the home delivers. A finished, award-winning house on a large, flat block in Paddington is something we just don’t see very often.”
The home is set to go to auction on Valentine’s Day: Saturday February 14, at 6pm.
Mrs Caulfield said she expected to see interest from high-end buyers seeking a house that does not need a renovation to be move-in ready.
“Everything is on one level, the outdoor spaces feel safe and connected, and it’s been such a comfortable place to raise [the current vendors’] child.”
The home will be going to auction on Valentine’s Day: February 14 at 6pm.
