Barbie-inspired home sparks furious neighbour backlash

A Scottish mum has taken home renovations to an entirely new level, splashing out almost $10,000 to transform her family abode into a life-size ‘Barbie Dreamhouse’ – but not everyone is a fan.

Nicole Watt, 27, from Carluke, Scotland, spent six months meticulously planning the ultimate doll’s palace, all for her three Barbie-obsessed daughters: Ariah, 8, and five-year-old twins Aryn and Ayda.

“The girls’ papa and gran made the house, the surfboards, pantries, lampposts and palm trees – everything Barbie requires,” Nicole told The Mirror.

“Twins are hard because they don’t like the same stuff apart from Barbies, so we decided on a Barbie Dreamhouse. They love Barbies, I’ve got an older wee girl, and she absolutely loves them, so this is like a dream.”

The exterior of the property is now a riot of pink, featuring a Barbie-themed mannequin, a towering palm tree, a dressing table, and even a surfboard.

Adding to the whimsical charm are a glittering pink disco ball, playful flamingoes, and an assortment of beach toys, creating a truly immersive fantasy land.

Crafted largely from wood, lashings of pink paint, and cleverly upcycled materials, the Dreamhouse quickly became a local landmark.

Visitors from across the region have flocked to the street, eager to snap photos, and the project has garnered hundreds of glowing comments online.

The house’s journey to viral fame was cemented on TikTok, drawing curious onlookers “from all over”.

Nicole recounted, “I went out yesterday, and there was a randomer in my garden taking pictures – they think it’s amazing.”

However, not everyone is thrilled with the audacious display.

While many have praised the family’s creativity, some neighbours have voiced their less-than-enthusiastic opinions.

One local reportedly quipped, “Imagine having to live across the road from that,” while another remarked, “It is a bit much and probably cost a fortune.”

Despite the occasional grumble, the overwhelming sentiment has been one of admiration. Social media users have lauded the family’s remarkable efforts.

“This has been a lovely effort for her girls and the neighbourhood. Surely she doesn’t have to take it down yet. It’s so bright and cheerful,” one person commented.

Another enthusiastically declared, “This is bloody brilliant so much fun.”

“Oh wow fantastic! Brilliant memories for the wee girls,” a third added.

Much to the disappointment of its growing fanbase, the Barbie Dreamhouse is a temporary installation.

It was originally conceived as part of the Carluke and District Gala Day and is slated for dismantling in the coming days.
