84 Darling Point Rd, Darling Point is full of charm.
Artistic duo Marc and Gillie Schattner — known worldwide for their bronze and fibreglass sculptures and trophy home renovations — have pounced on a landmark deceased estate post auction.
And it’s, without doubt, their biggest challenge yet.
The couple have snapped up a charming five-bedroom, four-bathroom residence with inground pool on a 456sqm block overlooking the harbour at 84 Darling Point Rd, Darling Point for $12.2m, sources advise.
The property, which was listed with Richardson and Wrench principal Michael Dunn in conjunction with James Dunn of Sotheby’s, had passed in at $11.55m at Friday night’s auction.
The agents couldn’t disclose the result, but the property is now marked as sold and a quick call around to other sources revealed both the price and the buyers.

The deceased estate has been the home of the Cowans for more than 50 years.
Expect the new owners to transform the home.
Their new home had been listed for more than 100 days and it’s understood the original off-market guide had been $18m and it was $15m during the auction campaign.
But the Schattners are familiar with long sales campaigns and price drops, with their previous property, a five-bedroom residence on a 456sqm block at 304 Jersey Rd, Woollahra that they did a minor reno on and listed with a $15m guide last July taking eight months to sell — for $13.8m.
They’d bought it for $10.5m in 2021, so they still did well.
Their next home will need some bigger adjustments but, as in Woollahra, it will no doubt ultimately be decorated with some of their incredible sculptures.
Instead of this period furniture, expect bronze sculptures.
The country-style kitchen will also no doubt be given a makeover.

The Darling Point home was owned by the late Richard and Janet Cowan, who bought it more than 50 years ago. Land title records don’t reveal what they paid or when.
But it’s positioned at the prestige harbourfront end of Darling Point Rd.
The realestate.com.a ad advises: “The stately home unfolds across three levels with a perfect n-facing orientation, as wide alfresco terraces and sweeping balconies capture breathtaking harbour views and abundant northerly light.”
It has soaring ornate ceilings, marble fireplaces and iron lace balconies.
The elegant living rooms flow to sunny terraces and a country-style kitchen connects to the landscaped rear garden and swimming pool.
The upper levels include two large bedroom suites and a full attic conversion.
Prior to their Woollahra purchase and reno, the Schattners previously sold in Centennial Park for $12m in 2021 having bought for $6.5m four years earlier.
They’ve had similar projects in Bellevue Hill and Potts Point.
