Architect Martin Friedrich and his wife Claire have put their home at 58A Champion St, Brighton, on the market.
Noted Melbourne architect Martin Friedrich and his wife Claire are selling their breathtaking Brighton home with $5.7m-$6.25m price hopes.
Mr Friedrich’s St Kilda-based architectural practice, where Ms Friedrich is business manager and also involved in interior design, is known for its high-end residential, multi-residential and commercial projects.
The couple’s four-bedroom townhouse at 58A Champion St is named The Atrium House, thanks to its internal double-storey-height atrium.

Home in Brighton boasts private wellness centre, showstopping pool and eight-car garage
Framed in curved glass with delicate steel detailing, the atrium wraps around a central courtyard.
Kay & Burton’s Matthew Pillios said the abode’s other highlights include a pool and spa, lift, and basement level with a cinema, games room, cellar and a gym where a window looks into the pool.
“The home is absolutely breathtaking,” Mr Pillios said.
“Many buyers have been families and downsizers, we’ve had close to 80 groups come through including fans of Mr Friedrich’s design who have come from right across Melbourne.”
Gaggenau appliances, including multiple ovens, induction and gas cooking, feature in the kitchen along with a butler’s pantry.

Mr and Ms Friedrich said they designed The Atrium House as both their private residence and as a showcase for their architectural practice.
The kitchen is fitted with Gaggenau appliances, including multiple ovens, induction and gas cooking, and a butler’s pantry.
A cocktail cabinet with integrated wine refrigeration is ideal for entertaining, while the lounge and dining areas lead to the pool.
The first-floor main bedroom suite is accompanied by a dressing room, marble-clad ensuite and sitting area with pool views.
Soft grey concrete render, polished plaster, timber flooring, bespoke joinery and iron-grey accents are among the home’s design hallmarks.
The basement includes a games room and home cinema.
Sculptural curved stairs, a study, courtyards by Jack Merlo Landscaping and a basement garage with space for six-to-seven cars are among the other standouts.
The Friedrichs have lived at The Atrium House with their children since building it three years ago.
The couple said they had originally intended to occupy the property for a short time before moving onto another design project, but ended up staying longer because they fell in love with it.
The house exhibits Martin Friedrich Architects’ design signatures such as light-filled open spaces, grand entries, double-height voids and different textures.
The Frierichs purposely incorporated curves into much of the townhouse’s design.

Ms Friedrich said she especially loved the curves echoed in some of the walls, the staircase and atrium.
Inspiration for the atrium itself came from a desire to show it was possible to have more natural light enter a house’s south side, as opposed to the north side.
Mr Friedrich described a stone ledge running from the atrium to the kitchen and out to the barbecue on a terrace as the “spine of the home.”
One of the photos in the house’s online listing includes some Star Wars Lego, put together by one of their sons.
“The rumpus room with the Lego on display is connected to the internal atrium by a door and you can go sit outside,” Mr Friedrich said.
Work up a sweat in the home gym.
The wine cellar is also part of the home’s basement level.
One of their favourite memories of the townhouse is the weekly picnic they enjoy in the home cinema as a family, where they set up a blanket and eat Mexican food.
“We love watching movies in the cinema together,” Ms Friedrich said.
“The kids have a great time in the gym and home cinema.”
And the build was delayed by the Covid pandemic’s lockdowns, which led to them vowing to swim in the pool the day they moved in.
However, Mr Friedrich noted that day turned out to be incredibly cold.
“It was the quickest swim you’ve ever seen,” he laughed.
The Atrium House is for sale via expressions of interest.
