All trace of Harry and Meghan to be removed from Frogmore Cottage

Plans are underway to reverse the $4.5 million (£2.4 million) renovations completed for Prince Harry and wife Meghan at Frogmore Cottage.

The Crown Estate is assessing whether the property can be separated back into two homes, three years after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were evicted, The Sun reports.

The Windsor cottage sat empty for three years following their departure.

The royal couple famously converted the two semi-detached houses into one large property after the late Queen gave it to them as a wedding present in 2018.

The transformation took almost a year to complete. It included installing a private yoga studio, replacing ceiling beams, swapping out floor joists, rewiring the electrics, and installing new gas and water mains.

The couple paid for their own custom fixtures and fittings. These features included a $9,000 (£5,000) copper bathtub and interior decoration by Soho House designer Vicky Charles, which featured specialised vegan paint.

Insiders said the property would now require major and expensive structural renovations to completely bring it back to the pre-Meghan and Harry era.

Former royal Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor rejected recent bids to move him into the property as part of his ongoing Royal Lodge eviction talks.

A royal source said the cottage has been completely abandoned.

“It’s been empty for three years,” the source said.

“Even Andrew thought it wasn’t good enough for him to move in.

“Maybe if they get rid of any trace of Harry and Meghan, then someone within the royal household will fancy it.

“It would draw the line under Frogmore Cottage’s controversial history and return it to the pre-Meghan and Harry era.”

The Sussexes briefly moved into the property shortly before the birth of their son Archie in 2019, but left for Canada later that year.

They announced plans to step down as working royals and leave the United Kingdom permanently in January 2020.

Prince Harry paid back the $4.5 million (£2.4 million) renovation cost six months after leaving the country.

King Charles officially evicted the couple from the home in 2023, weeks after Prince Harry published his memoir Spare.

The couple currently live in California and no longer hold an UK address.

Prince Harry reportedly wants to return to the UK with Meghan and their children Lilibet, four, and Archie, seven, if his official security is reinstated following a Home Office review.

Building work to separate the property has not yet commenced.
