Now the ink has dried on the sale of the grand Edgecliff estate Carmel, the new owners’ names have been revealed as Olivia and Jeremy Bond, grandson of the late businessman Alan Bond.
The Mediterranean-style mansion on Albert St, designed in 1935 by renowned architect F. Glynn Gilling for prominent stockbroker Stanley Utz, launched to market in April through Gavin Rubinstein founder of TRG.
Carmel was listed by owner Deborah Hopper, wife of renowned biotech entrepreneur Paul Hopper, and reportedly changed hands on September 11 for around $30 million.
Rubinstein declined to comment on the sale, or the purchaser, however the local real estate rumour mill has named Bond Jr as the new custodian of the rare estate.

Bond has now listed his current Woollahra mansion on Wallaroy Rd via Rubinstein, which is set to go to auction on November 5.
On a grand 1300sq m, Carmel sits on the border of Edgecliff and Woollahra – a major drawcard according to Rubinstein’s comment prior to the sale.
“With some of the chaos involved with rezoning [for apartments], land is becoming more valuable than ever,” Rubinstein said.
“In the eastern suburbs, there is only a limited amount of it available and they’re not making any more.”

Throughout its colourful history, the landmark estate has passed through a string of prominent hands including media identities, Rupert “Rags” Henderson and Ezra Norton.

It later belonged to the Bishop family, Hong Kong banker Warren Kitson, and Kate and Dominic Roche – the son of Nutrimetics founders Bill and Imelda Roche – who sold it for $6.775m in 2001 to investment banker Scott Malcolm. He then sold Carmel on to Dr Charalambos Revelas in 2017 for $15.75 million.
Behind its stately stone façade, Carmel has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and parking for up to eight cars.
Its interiors feature a double-height entrance foyer, Calacatta marble kitchen with a Lacanche range cooker, and formal and informal living areas that open onto limestone terraces with 180-degree views of Sydney Harbour.
