Billionaire Adrian Portelli has admitted he is “nervous” about his $2.7m Bulleen renovation gamble as Channel 7 unveiled the first teaser for its bold attempt to challenge ratings juggernaut The Block.

The LMCT+ founder and former serial Block bidder posted the preview for My Reno Rules on Instagram and told followers the project had pushed him outside his comfort zone.RELATED: Melb’s insane 13 fireplace convict built mansion

“I’m a little nervous but here it is,” he wrote.

“Never in a million years did I imagine I’d be part of something like this.

“It’s a completely new challenge for me and I’ve thrown myself into this project because I truly believed it was going to be a serious contender in the ratings game.”

The Channel 7 series centres on two neighbouring houses at 54 and 56 Pinnacle Cres, Bulleen, which Portelli purchased for about $2.7m before donating them to the production.

Four teams of contestants will renovate the ageing properties before the finished homes are handed to viewers rather than sold at auction.

The show represents Seven’s most direct attempt yet to challenge Channel 9’s long-running renovation hit The Block.

In the teaser Mr Portelli is shown briefing contestants on the unusual format.

“I’ll be giving away two homes to two Australian families,” he tells them.

“You could win.”

Unlike traditional renovation shows where the homes are sold at auction, My Reno Rules will culminate in two viewers receiving the fully renovated houses during the finale giveaway.

The program is being promoted as the “biggest giveaway in Australian television history”.

The preview also hints at a format built around surprise twists and shifting rules.

“The rules can change at any moment,” a voice warns in the trailer.

As contestants are told Portelli’s expectations are “very, very high.”

The teaser suggests competitors will face curveballs and challenges designed to keep “upping the ante” across the renovation process.

But the project has not been without hurdles.

Filming briefly paused late last year after asbestos was reportedly identified inside the 1960s-era Bulleen homes, forcing crews to halt work while licensed specialists assessed and removed suspect materials.

Production resumed once the site received formal clearance.

Hosted by Dr Chris Brown, the series features a judging panel including Block veteran Neale Whitaker, Luxe Listings Sydney star and prominent buyers agent Simon Cohen and interiors expert Julia Green.

My Reno Rules is expected to air later this year on Channel 7 and 7plus.
