A grand $50 million “renovator’s delight” has come to market in Sydney’s exclusive Point Piper after more than four decades owned by one family.

The grand waterfront property, complete with its own deep water jetty and harbourside swimming pool, sits on Wunulla Rd surrounded by well-heeled neighbours and eye-watering price tags.

Michael Dunn, principal of Richardson & Wrench Double Bay said the home was ready for its next custodians after a generation in the same hands.

“It’s most likely the new owners will create the home of their dreams. The property has been extremely well maintained over the years, but it’s reached a stage where I think new owners will want to create their own waterfront masterpiece. It will no doubt be a major project,” said Dunn, who has co-listed the property with James Dunn of Sydney Sotheby’s International Realty.

The three-storey residence is on offer via an expressions of interest campaign with a yet to be determined closing date.

“Someone could potentially knock it down, but the appetite for a full renovation project in such a location is definitely there. It’s been on the market for less than a week and we’ve already had some strong interest from a number of buyers,” Michael Dunn said

Dunn added that buyer inquiries had come mostly from Sydney-based buyers, with some interest from overseas purchasers.

According to title records, 31 Wunulla Rd, Point Piper is owned by Haduso Pty Ltd, registered under the family name Sandhu.

Dunn declined to comment on the vendor’s identity.

“I’ve known the owner 30 or 40 years and now he’s decided to sell the property; he doesn’t need it any longer because he’s currently living overseas,” he said.

After purchasing the house in the 1980s, the owner then bought an additional title including the pool and jetty approximately 10 years ago. On offer today, both titles measure 1139sq m of coveted harbourfront land.

As it stands, the four-bedroom, four bathroom family home has sweeping views across Rose Bay, spacious living and dining areas with high ceilings and fireplaces, a big eat-in gas kitchen, a main bedroom with a private terrace and adjoining study or nursery, plus a separate annex ideal for studio, gym, home office or teenager retreat.

There are expansive leafy gardens on the water’s edge with a level lawn, a 10m by 7m swimming pool, a long deepwater jetty, and a boat shed.

“The location is just incredible. It might sound like a cliche, but it’s true – these kinds of properties don’t come up very often. It’s only five doors away from the Royal Motor Yacht Club, there’s a possibility that boating people might buy it. A home like this is all about lifestyle,” Dunn said.
