We’ve all been there: A giant huntsman emerges from behind a picture frame on the wall and in a blind panic you throw a shoe or anything else within reach at a spider you’ll tell your friends later was at least the size of a dinner plate.

It’s a rite of passage in Australia and probably happens hundreds of times a day across our arachnid-infested country.

But in an era when apartment construction and apartment living continues to skyrocket a well-timed shoe missile exploding into a shared wall can cause bigger problems with neighbours than the wily huntsman scuttling for cover.

Such was the case for one apartment resident who was forced to write an apology note to her neighbour after her own arachnid anger blackout.

The woman detailed on social media her own spider experience while living in an apartment.

“I feel so bad. I was not thinking,” she wrote.

“I live in an apartment and there was a spider on the wall, so I threw a shoe at it to kill it because my wife wasn’t home to take care of it, and I’m so scared of spiders.

“Do you think this note will suffice? I’m literally shaking. I feel so badly about banging on their wall for no reason.”

The hastily-written Post-it note was stuck to the neighbour’s door.

“Hi! I am your next door neighbour. I’m so sorry for banging on the wall. There was a spider and so I threw a shoe at the wall without thinking. So sorry,” the note read.

It’s an issue that will become more prominent in Australia as apartment living continues to rise.

Housing Industry Association figures released last year forecast 6.5 per cent growth in apartment construction in 2026, accelerating towards almost 100,000 new builds annually by the end of the decade.

The woman’s post attracted the amusement of other people who have faced similar situations while living in apartments.

“Honestly, things happen. If I got this note I’d find it really cute and would ask if you won the war against the spider,” one person wrote.

“This is probably one of the most wholesome explanations a neighbour could ever receive for sudden banging against the wall,” another said.

“People make loud noises sometimes,” said someone else.
