36 Western Beach Rd, Geelong, was listed with a $4.79m to $4.99m price tag.
A landmark dichromatic brick home on Geelong’s Western Beach has become the most expensive home to sell in the city centre in the past year.
Local buyers secured the renovated four-bedroom house at 36 Western Beach Rd.
McGrath, Geelong agent Jim Cross said the local buyers wanted to downsize to a single-level home on Geelong’s waterfront.
“Wanting a single level home on the waterfront is not east to find, unless you’re buying an apartment,” Mr Cross said.

A north-facing swimming pool area is a feature in the back yard.
“A lot of the houses around the waterfront are now two storey and this one is single level and ticks all the boxes for what they need.
“That’s been a common theme with people buying homes along the waterfront – they are either knocking them down and building new or going up and doing a second level.”
Mr Cross said he was not able to disclose the price but revealed it was “close to $4.8m”.
Industry sources show it sold for close to $4.68m.
The owners had extensively renovated the home that previously sold for $3m in 2016.
“It was meticulously done and the new owners can move in and not do a thing,” Mr Cross said
The main living space has a large picture window looking over Geelong’s waterfront.
The kitchen connects the indoor and outdoor living spaces.
“You could really tell they had put the quality into the renovation.
“It had a mix of that period-style finish and contemporary finishing in the kitchen and living area. They tied that all together really well.”
Mr Cross said the house had a north-facing swimming pool area with travertine tiles and a four-car garage.
Triple-glazed windows ensured the monochromatic brick character facade would shine, but shielded occupants from the noise on Western Beach Rd.
“You get the amazing views but you’re also close to everything the Geelong waterfront has to offer as far as cafes, restaurants and everything right on your doorstep. And if you want to go Pakington St, you can walk across the footbridge,” Mr Cross said.
24 Western Beach Rd, Geelong is listed with $4.95m to $5.25m price hopes.
2 Fitzroy St, Geelong, is selling with $4.5m to $4.7m price hopes.
3 Fitzroy St, Geelong, is on the market with $2.79m to $2.99m price hopes.
The home is the third waterfront house to sell on Geelong’s in the past six months, leaving four more higher-priced houses on the market, along with numerous waterfront apartments.
They include a renovated Edwardian house at 24 Western Beach Rd, which Jellis Craig Geelong agent Marcus Falconer has listed with a $5.95m guide, while new agents have been appointed to sell a historic brick house on a deep 1209sq m block at 56 Western Beach Rd with expectations circa $5.4m to $5.9m.
Other high-end waterfront homes up for grabs includes a historic two-storey residence at 2 Fitzroy St, Geelong. The Eastern Beach home is listed for $4.5m to $4.7, hopes by Geelong agent James Wilson.
Across the road, a two-storey residence at 3 Fitzroy St is on the market with $2.79m to $2.99m hopes. Whitford, Newtown agent Heidi Trempel is handling that campaign.
