The purchase of this West Moonah property has had an unexpected effect on its new owners.

They say they may never find another house that compares with it.

Even Nelson and partner Chris Griffin bought their ‘50s house as an investment.

The Glebe couple, both 52, said their property delivered “everything they wanted”.

Mrs Nelson said, alongside the main house upstairs, it has a lower level unit, too.

“The dual income was appealing,” she said.

“You don’t find that often. It’s a unicorn.

“The property ticked so many boxes for us. It came tenanted, with some good tenants. The price was good, and the rental return was higher than we expected.

“It is a set and forget type of investment.

“We are really happy with it.”

Mrs Nelson said they had not been property hunting seriously before finding this house to buy.

She said they “stumbled across it”, but quickly saw its appeal.

“We decided, about 20 minutes before the open home, to go and have a look.

“Chris and I had talked about what we might want but had not actively started the process.

“It turned out to be too good to pass up — it’s ideal.”

The problem now is finding a second unicorn.

Some homes have come along, but none quite compare.

“We may have to set the expectations at the right level, maybe they can’t all be perfect,” Mrs Nelson said.
