5/1 Glenny St Toowong is located within the One Apartments
If walls could talk, a luxury Toowong apartment might recount stories of the pioneering days of computer science as well as academic debates stretching long into the night.
And it would all be set against an idyllic vista overlooking the river, with the lights of Brisbane shimmering in the background.

Owned by Professor Iris Vessey and software engineering academic, the late Dr Robert Glass, the chic riverfront apartment occupies the entire fifth floor of the ‘One Apartments’ complex on Glenny St, and boasts three bedrooms, premium views, and an enviable entertainer’s lifestyle.
But it was the location and proximity to the University of Queensland that drew the couple to the property in 2014.

Internationally recognised for their work in information systems and software engineering, the pair had spent decades teaching, researching and publishing around the world before returning to Brisbane.
“We fell in love with the idea of living on the river, and the fact it offered proximity to UQ, the city and Toowong,” Prof Vessey said.
“And the views are sensational.
“The apartment is on the bend in the river with the city on one side and views across to green space on the other.”

Featuring an open plan layout, the residence has a full-width entertaining balcony, in addition to multiple living and dining areas, a media room, and dedicated office.
Banks of bi-fold doors connect the inside with the outdoor entertaining space overlooking West End and the city, while the home also includes additional balconies offering views to St Lucia, the suburbs and hills beyond Brisbane.

While the master suite takes in the city views, the property features a clever design that creates privacy and separation, making it ideal for entertaining and accommodating visiting family and overseas guests.
“It’s a property that really lends itself to entertaining on a corporate level,” Prof Vessey said.
“We spent many an evening dining on the deck and we also hosted a lot of international guests and family.
“But there’s also this sense of privacy because the unit occupies the whole floor and you can’t really see anyone else.”

For Prof Vessey, residing in Toowong and working at UQ was a serendipitous return to her alma mater after years of working overseas in locations including the US and Italy.
“This apartment was wonderful for us as a couple,” Prof Vessey said.
“It’s very calm, very relaxed and to sit and watch life go by was so enjoyable.
“At night it’s magical to look down the river and see the city lights twinkling on the water or to spend the day watching the CityCats and other craft on the river.”

Set to go to action on June 27, the apartment is one of only seven in a building described as ‘arguably Toowong’s best riverfront location’.
“Really it’s all about location, location, location,” Prof Vessey said.
“It’s so central yet so quiet.
“It’s five minutes’ walk to Toowong Village, the Royal Exchange and the CityCat and then there’s the access to the university.
“It’s just brilliantly located.”
The residence comes complete with a lift that opens directly into the apartment foyer as well as ample storage and a double oversized garage.
Located at 5/1 Glenny St, the property is listed with Tom Lyne of Ray White New Farm.
