The Sorrento home comes with its own bathing boxes, which can command prices north of $1m on the beach.

The matriarch of Melbourne’s wealthy Zagame family is selling the Sorrento beach getaway she bought with business founder husband Victor — complete with backyard bathing boxes.

And with the prospect of adding a neighbouring home owned by the family onto the sale ticket, it could be a $10m+ compound.

Documents show the home is in the name of Antoinette (Toni) Zagame, a family name known for its award-winning hotel empire that began with the Albion Charles Hotel in Northcote, before expanding to cover their eponymous family pub venues and holiday resorts.

The business is now run by son’s Victor Jnr and Robert Anthony.

The $7.3m-$8m property on Point Nepean Rd is known as Tower House in homage to the suburb’s historic tower houses, but was actually built in the 1990s.

Its listing is the latest in a series of high-value real estate moves by the Zagames, with Ms Zagame selling her Brighton home for $24.5m in 2023, and the commercial arm of the family selling the Garden State Hotel in Melbourne’s CBD late last year for $35m.

Records show the family bought the Sorrento residence for $1.47m in 2002.

The home is designed as an homage to more historic residences in the area.

The back yard features a pool, tennis court and the bathing boxes — all in sight of the rear deck.

Its back yard hosts Peninsula must haves including a tennis court, pool and a spa, as well as one of the more unique features for a home in the area — bathing boxes.

Sotheby’s International Realty’s Rob Curtain is handling the sale and while he declined to comment on the property’s owners, he noted the colourful boxes were a common site along the Mornington Peninsula’s beaches that he’d yet to see a back yard.

The Point Nepean Rd property has four.

Water views are on display from the home’s balcony and rooftop terrace.

“It’s a lovely nod to the coastal culture,” Mr Curtain said.

“And given they charge $1m for a beach box, the home should be worth even more.”

The agent said the resort-style home had a prominent spot near the Sorrento hotel, a great feel and scope for the next owner to further put their stamp on it.

The five-bedroom residence also features a sun room, lounge area and dining zone, sitting room and a deck for entertaining at the rear.

There are also four bathrooms and two carparks in the garage, with room for more parking behind the 1711sq m property’s gate.

The expansive property could also include a neighbouring cottage.

The floorplan also includes a rooftop terrace as well as a glass-lined spiral staircase leading up to an upper level bar and balcony, all with views to Port Phillip Bay.

With a portico entrance set behind lush gardens, the home creates an instant impression.

A neighbouring three-bedroom cottage fronting Hotham Rd could also be included with the sale if a buyer was looking for a larger compound or guest accommodation.

Mr Curtain said that home was likely to sell for about $2.3m-$2.5m.

In December, the Zagame family sold their popular Melbourne pub the Garden State Hotel for $35m.

Ms Zagame also parted ways with the family’s long-term home at 27 Kent Ave, Brighton, for $24.5m in 2023.
