An architect-designed Eastern Shore home, which has hardly changed hands since it was built in the 1970s, has captivated buyers.

The character-filled family home at No.90 Malunna Rd, Lindisfarne, rocketed to the top of realestate.com.au’s popularity charts over the past week with over 5000 views.

Harcourts Hobart agent Colin Miller said the market’s response to this property has been “extraordinary”, especially from young families.

“It was live to market for just five days and attracted nine competing offers,” Mr Miller said.

“The top three offers were all around 10 per cent above the asking price.

“I ran two open homes, with 25 groups through the first and 33 groups through the second, and when including broader inquiries, we had around 65 buyer groups in total.

“It was a real heartbreaker in the end. Delivering the news to buyers that they have missed out is one of the worst parts of my job, particularly when so many people genuinely connected with the home.”

The four-bedroom, two-bathroom home is set across three levels, and, including its buyers, it has only had three owners.

The entry level features a wide light-filled corridor lined with internal garden beds. Just a few stairs down is the welcoming lounge with large north-facing windows. The hub of the home is a few stairs down again with the kitchen, dining and living area opening onto a sunny enclosed glass atrium. The kitchen, under its hanging garden, features clever storage, modern appliances and Silestone benchtops.

The three bedrooms, including the main bedroom with a delightful ensuite, plus the family bathroom and laundry are ideally placed on their own upper level away from the hustle and bustle.

Tasmanian oak flooring, high ceilings and the home’s strong architectural lines all add warmth and depth.

Mr Miller said the exposed beams were a talking point among buyers.

“They absolutely loved them,” he said.

“I think we are seeing a bit of fatigue from buyers with more cookie-cutter homes that can all start to feel quite similar.

“This home had that wonderful character of yesteryear, along with the sort of robust timber features that were more common and more affordable to include back then.

“The features buyers kept commenting on were how beautifully it had been looked after and immaculately maintained, its classic 1970s architectural design and styling, the indoor plants, and, yes, those exposed timber beams.

“Buyers also seemed to appreciate the more compartmentalised layout with defined living areas, which is quite different to many modern open-plan homes.

“Internal access to the garage was also ahead of its time for a home of this era, as was having an ensuite.

“Lindisfarne was another major drawcard.

“It remains a very popular location for families, and this home seemed to capture that combination of location, character, warmth and practicality that buyers are really responding to.”

No.90 Malunna Rd, Lindisfarne was listed at “Offers over $895,000”. Its sale price is undisclosed.
