The Block stars Emma and Ben forced to sell dream home after auction failure

They were the drama-free darlings of The Block, winning hearts and rooms, even announcing a pregnancy.

But for Emma and Ben, the fairytale ended abruptly on auction day, and now, the true cost of their reality TV gamble is laid bare: their own meticulously renovated “dream home” in Mornington, Victoria, is up for sale as the couple struggles to make ends meet.

The four-bedroom, two-bathroom Hamptons-inspired home at 18 Brydon Close has been listed with price hopes of $1.75m to $1.925m.

“We currently have our own home up for sale. We completed the renovation on this one just before we went on The Block. And to be honest, it’s like our dream home, but we’re just 10 years too early,” the couple told Mamamia.

“Our plan was to see how we go on The Block and if we made any money on the show, we would have loved to have stayed living there. However, we are still in limbo with The Block house, so we thought best to sell it and move on. Sad.

“We would love to either do another renovation or a brand-new build. For either option, you’ll be seeing a lot more home reno love on our Ben and Em Instagram.”

The property includes a large pool and spa.

The couple, who welcomed baby Bailey Colter Cox on September 25, had a crushing end to their Block journey. Despite winning two rooms and receiving consistent praise, their house was passed in, falling a mere $20,000 short of its $2.99m reserve.

“It was extremely disappointing to have our home not sell on auction day,” Emma and Ben admitted.
“It definitely wasn’t the fairytale ending we had dreamt of.”

The home also comes with four spacious bedrooms.

Selling agent Jarrod Carman of Carman Real Estate said the home’s first open last Wednesday attracted plenty of buyers – with some expected to make a return on Saturday for a second look.

He said the home had been lovingly renovated into a modern family home with multiple living spaces, an in-ground pool and spa, fruit trees and a large garage.

“With the four bedrooms, the extra study and the pool, (the home) has a lot going for it. It’s a great family home in a great family location,” Mr Carman said.

“I met with them the year before they went on The Block as they were considering (selling) because they do like to renovate and move on to another thing.

“So I don’t think it’s not by desperation (that they are selling)….I just think they want to renovate again.”
