The Block fake buyer misses out on $1m+ - for herald sun real estate

The Block’s alleged conwoman buyer, Emese Fajk, has likely missed out on more than $1m by skipping out on the purchase.

The Brighton home with a front-row seat to one of the biggest scandals in The Block’s history has sold for a whopping sum north of $5m.

And the result hints that the alleged conwoman who infamously tried to fake documents in a bid to buy the neighbouring home from the show during its live auctions is now at least $1m worse off for not having followed through.

The 360B New St residence, sold on the show for $3.856m in 2020, has just been offloaded by the local periodontist who bought it as part of the show’s then most successful ever auction event.

Industry sources have tipped the sale to have landed in the home’s $5m-$5.3m price guide set by Brighton real estate veteran Jonathan Dixon at JP Dixon Real Estate.

It was renovated as House 4 by Luke and Jasmin and wound up coming fourth.

Mr Dixon would not discuss the sale, but has routinely represented some of the Bayside enclave’s most famous residents including regularly working for the likes of cricket legend Shane Warne and his family as well as football firebrand Sam Newman.

And while the sale represents an at least $1.144m boost for the home’s value in just under six years, it’s also a win for the neighbouring home that suffered the most unexpected fate in the show’s history — suggesting it too has likely had a $1m-plus uptick.

The impressive residence at 360B New St, Brighton, looks virtually the same as it did when it sold under the hammer years before.

The neighbouring 360A New St Brighton was, briefly, sold to Emese Fajk.

Almost every other home in that season was snapped up by Danny Wallis, the IT entrepreneur turned serial buyer for Channel 9’s ratings hit.

Except for 360A New St, Brighton.

The Palm Springs style renovation sold under the hammer to Emese Fajk, who it later turned out had gained access to the show’s tightly controlled auction event with allegedly fraudulent bank statements.

Following a $4.256m bid that set a record for the show as it delivered an unprecedented $1.06m windfall for contestants Jimmy and Tam, the then 28-year-old Ms Fajk had yet to pay the deposit a month after her apparent purchase.

The contestants later revealed they felt like they had been conned by her actions, though were able to retain their winnings.

The deal was ultimately scrapped, with Ms Fajk reportedly saying she was ‘giving up’ on it.

Another buyer was locked in for the house at $4m a bit over a month later.

Two years later the Hungarian-born Ms Fajk was spotted posing in camo gear with a gun in Ukraine, as well as alongside soldiers, as part of a media event — reputedly having joined foreign fighting forces in the country’s conflict with Russia.

By 2023 the alleged conwoman was facing accusations from Ukraine’s security agency that she had committed financial crimes in the war-torn nation.

Ironically, had Ms Fajk continued with the purchase, the neighbouring home’s result suggests she would be close to $1m better off by now.

Records show that since its $3.856m sale, 360B New St spent time on the rental market, advertised at $2700 a week in 2021 and again at $2800 in 2022.

It hit the market in late April this year, and notched a sale earlier this month.

The five-bedroom residence was marketed with nods to its Federation-era build as well as more modern designer finishes.

Marketing touted its light-filled interiors, chevron timber floors, a curved kitchen bench that blends timber with stone, and an award-winning ensuite for its main bedroom.

Outside, it has a heated pool, a pizza oven and fire pit, as well as a cabana with a drinks fridge.

And, with the home sold just days before the federal budget announced significant changes to negative gearing and capital gains tax on May 15, it’s also likely the last home renovated by the show that will have access to the tax benefits — with only new builds to be able to access them from 7.30pm May 12, 2026, onwards.
