Sydney’s ‘good luck’ penthouse sells for circa $30m

The sold sticker has gone up at a penthouse described as “unlike anything the Sydney market has ever seen”.

The four-bedroom, five-bathroom apartment known as level 83 King Penthouse sits atop the Greenland building at 115 Bathurst St, Sydney.

Ahead of its May launch, TRG founder Gavin Rubinstein had highlighted its uniqueness and described it as “next level, brand new, 245m high in the sky … with 360-degree views”.

He’d also pointed out that the building had no level four because it would be considered unlucky to some foreign buyers so “this is a good luck building”.

When contacted, Rubinstein refused to disclose the sale price saying it was confidential, though the guide had been $30m and sources said it sold for close to that.

He was also tightlipped about the purchaser, though it was pitched at international buyers who face fewer obstacles to buy new properties than older homes.

Rubinstein, with TRG co-agent Chrissie Ren, launched the penthouse to market with an invitation-only New York Style event.

On the guest list were 30 buyers agents.

And auctioneer Damien Cooley ran a charity auction, with prizes including a two-night stay at Rae’s penthouse in Double Bay and two nights at celebrity accountant Anthony Bell’s GHOST waterfront mansion in Noosa with butler.

The kitchen offers all the best finishes and appliances.

The wine cellar has room for 350 bottles.


There were also two tickets to the Monaco Grand Prix (donated by AHOY) and a dinner for a group of friends paired with wine at Catalina in Rose Bay.

The two-storey residence featured an incredible 674sqm of indoor and outdoor space.

It was fitted out by luxury turn-key providers Cohen Freeman, run by top buyer’s agent Simon Cohen with leading interior designer Jack Freeman, who furnished the space to suit an international high-net worth buyer.

At the time Rubinstein said: “Jack has created a masterpiece — whoever buys it has the option to buy the custom-made furniture, all $2m of it … they can move straight in, thanks to my friends at Cohen Freeman.”

He’d also said the $30m price tag was “good value” at just under $70,000 per sqm for the internal space.
