Surfection founder Chris Athas has slashed $6m from the asking price of his luxury Mosman home and has changed agents for the second time to find a buyer.
The north-facing designer home on Mosman’s Golden Mile was bought by Chris and Amanda Athas in 2001 for $3.965m and the couple engaged renowned architects Burton Katon Halliday to create a world-class home suitable for entertaining and for a family of six.
The state-of-the-art home came to market in 2018 with $17m to $17.5m expectations but didn’t sell. Then earlier this year it was back on the market with a different agent and a $28m price expectation.

Six months later it is listed with the luxury residential high profile agent Gavin Rubinstein of The Rubinstein Group and scheduled to be auctioned in February.
Its guide is now $22m.
If the house sells this year the Athas’ home will be the second highest sale of the year in Mosman beaten only by a luxury Balmoral estate in The Grove which sold for $30m in March.
Gavin said the Athas’s Golden Mile property just 250m to Chinaman’s beach was undoubtedly one of Mosman’s finest homes.
“It is built to an uncompromising standard of luxury with breathtaking northerly views over Middle Harbour,” he said.

Amanda Athas said the five-bedroom, six-bathroom home has been an amazing family home accommodating the couple’s four children from early childhood through the teenage years perfectly.
“The house is perfect for entertaining on both small and large occasions, the pool is close to the living areas and there are magnificent views across the harbour. We will definitely miss the exquisite sunsets of an afternoon,” she said.

Highlights of the sophisticated tri-level home are the marble island kitchen with top of the range Gaggenau appliances, an 800-bottle temperature controlled wine cellar, an internal lift and a four-car garage.
The surfing retail chain Surfection started in Military Rd, Mosman in 1985 and the Athas are staying in the suburb but downsizing now that their children are grown.
