Six houses NRL great Daly Cherry-Evans could buy now that he’s leaving Manly

The Maroons captain has called time on his career at Manly, and these houses for sale could fit the bill for a potential move up north.

After 15 years playing for the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles, NRL star Daly Cherry-Evans confirmed last week that the 2025 season will be his last at the club.

The 36-year-old premiership-winning halfback hasn’t yet decided if he’ll play on at another club next year, but that hasn’t stopped speculation about where DCE will land if he does go around for another season.

Any change is going to be a big one for Cherry-Evans, who has played 333 games for Many and served as the team’s captain since 2017.

Rumours are swirling around potential suitors for his signature in 2026, and with multiple clubs looking to add an experienced halfback to their roster, a return to Queensland may be on the cards.

NRL newcomers the Dolphins, based at Redcliffe in Brisbane’s north are among the frontrunners in the race to secure his services.

The North Queensland Cowboys, the Gold Coast Titans and the Sydney Roosters have also been identified as potential clubs for Cherry-Evans for 2026.

With a potential move north at the end of the year, finding a place to live will be high on the priority list, and there are plenty of properties on the market now that could be ideal.

DCE is no stranger to real estate, having made plenty of property deals over the years while amassing a property portfolio across Sydney’s northern beaches and beyond.

Having grown accustomed to a beachside lifestyle, it’s safe to assume he’d be keen on a home by the water.

He’ll also likely want plenty of space for his family of five, and a location not far from the home base of his potential new club.

Depending on where he lands, these properties for sale right now could be just the ticket for the rugby league legend.

The Dolphins

The Dolphins would be a natural fit for Cherry-Evans, who grew up in Redcliffe and began his football career at the Dolphins at just five years of age. It’s also where his father Troy Evans played in the 1980s.

The experienced half, who is poised to enter the top five most-capped players in the league by the end of this season, would be the perfect mentor for 21-year-old playmaker Isaiya Katoa.

When it comes to beachside real estate, DCE could do a lot worse than this five-bedroom, three-storey house at 3 Marine Parade, Redcliffe.

The 2018-built home is just footsteps from the sand, and features ocean views from the balcony, as well as a pool and ground-floor entertaining area. It’s also less than 10 minutes’ drive to Kayo Stadium, the Dolphins’ home ground.

If proximity to his potential new workplace is a priority, then this large five-bedroom waterfront home at 28 Mariner Court, Newport can’t be beat.

The 532sqm house is positioned on the canals adjacent to the stadium and includes a pool and multiple living areas – perfect for a growing family.

North Queensland Cowboys

Another Queensland club in the running is the Townsville-based North Queensland Cowboys, where Cherry-Evans could link up with Origin halves partner Tom Dearden.

The champion halfback would be just what the under-pressure club needs to turn their fortunes around, having had a slow start to this year’s season with just one win from four games.

After moving from Sydney’s pricey northern beaches, Cherry-Evans would be pleasantly surprised at how far his dollar would go in Townsville, where homes are much more affordable.

Even this expansive hillside Queenslander with ocean views at 5 Kensington Court, Castle Hill has a price tag of just $1.79 million – about a third of the estimated value of his current home in Sydney.

It includes five bedrooms, three bathrooms, three living areas and two studies, as well as a pool.

Gold Coast Titans

The Gold Coast Titans, headed up by former Manly coach Des Hasler, are another option, albeit a shaky one.

The club would need to forgive Cherry-Evans’ infamous 2015 backflip, when he reneged on a contract to move to the Titans in favour of staying at Manly in what was then the league’s richest deal – one that was meant to take him to the end of his career.

DCE was so committed to the move to the Gold Coast he even bought a house in Mermaid Beach for $1.45 million, eventually offloading the property for a $200,000 gain a few years after deciding to stick with Manly.

If he does move to the Titans, he might regret not holding onto that house – the median house price in Mermaid Beach has risen by more than $2 million, or about 165%, since he bought it.

Fortunately, there are plenty of other options in the area that may suit the Cherry-Evans clan, including this newly renovated four-bedroom house at 58 Messines Crescent, Miami.

It comes with a pool and is a short stroll to the beach, and goes to auction this weekend.

Another option a little further down the coast is 51 Third Avenue, Palm Beach, a four-bedroom house that also comes with a two-bedroom guest house.

This could potentially create an additional revenue stream that would bolster his existing portfolio.

Sydney Roosters

If Cherry-Evans chooses to stay in Sydney, the Roosters are a strong contender too. The eastern suburbs-based club have plenty of room in the salary cap after several big departures last year, and could do with a boost to their playmaker stocks, with veteran half Chad Townsend only signed until the end of this year.

The combination of DCE and rising star Sam Walker, who is expected to return from an ACL injury towards the end of this season, would be among the most feared in the league, and put the Roosters firmly into premiership contention.

If Cherry-Evans makes the move to the Roosters and isn’t keen on commuting across the bridge, then 105 Hewlett Street, Bronte sure looks appealing.

With panoramic ocean views, a cantilevered infinity pool and a wellness space on the ground floor, the newly built property would be a fitting home for the rugby league legend to finish off his career.
