‘Rough diamond’: fixer-upper with motorbike in kitchen, collapsing ceiling hits the market

4 weeks ago 13

A family-sized fixer-upper with a motorbike sitting in the kitchen and the ceiling falling down has been making waves in Melbourne, attracting ‘nearly 30,000 online views’ during its first week.

The four-bedroom house at 95 Ella Grove in the bayside suburb of Chelsea is heading to auction on September 7, with a price guide of $800,000 to $850,000.

The home was listed for less than the suburb’s latest median house price of $1.025 million, according to PropTrack.

The listing describes the home as a ‘coastal rough diamond’ sitting on a 558sqm block just 1.5km from the beach.

But the home has been offered for sale in a state of disrepair that is more likely to appeal to tradies and investors who are happy to roll up their sleeves and fix up the place.

The kitchen was pictured with a small motorbike sitting inside it, and clutter sprawled across the cabinets and floors. The kitchen ceiling was also held up by a makeshift brace sitting on the kitchen bench.

The adjoining living room was filled with abandoned clutter, while the tiled walls and fixtures were stained and broken in one of the bathrooms.

Other rooms and bedrooms had been neglected, with rubbish and homewares strewn across the floor.

And in the backyard, there was an empty in-ground swimming pool with weeds growing out of it.

Selling agent Cameron Howe from One Agency – Longbeach said the property was being priced at its land value, which had generated "nearly 30,000 views online in the first week".

“Many agents choose to hide the property from the market, but I have rawly depicted the property as it is and therefore maximised interest rather than pigeon-holing it as a knockdown sale with knockdown offers, with buyers of all persuasions showing up who can see the potential of this rough diamond,” Mr Howe said.

The property comes with a main bathroom, ensuite and adjacent powder room, as well as a sealed driveway, lock-up garage and a second car space.

Chelsea is a beachside suburb located about 30km southeast of Melbourne’s CBD.
