A Leabrook home has been much loved for the past 28 years and is ready for another family to come along and put down their own roots for generations to come.
Amelia and Oliver Porter bought the 23 Rochester St home in 1997, attracted by its location and potential as a grand family entertainer.
“We’ve renovated twice in that period of time and it’s just such a beautiful property – we’ve brought our children up in the house and they’re all older now and so we’re moving on,” she says.

“It was completely different back then and had suspended ceilings, so we took all of that out, and reinstated the original fireplaces and the floorboards. We redid the swimming pool and the tennis court, and when we renovated again six years ago we knew we were going to be downsizing in the future so all of our decisions were based around that thinking and making it a beautiful property for the next owner.
“In the recent renovation we rejigged the floorplan and made it more modern. We did it all lovingly, thinking about the functionality of the house. It’s about that marriage of form and function, but I’ve always been big on functionality.”

The home has up to five bedrooms – one of these detached and featuring an ensuite bathroom. The master suite also has a luxe ensuite, and the spacious bathroom has a separate bath and shower. At the home’s rear you’ll find an open-plan kitchen, family and dining room – the kitchen complete with an island bench and a walk-in pantry, and the family room with a bay window. The home also has a cellar.
“We’re big entertainers and do it a lot – we always have our family Christmases here,” Mrs Porter says. “All of our friends love our house and some new friends came here recently and they were blown away and said it was so beautiful, because it’s like a paradise out the back.”
The garden setting of the rear yard houses a tennis court and a swimming pool, while a winter creek adds an air of tranquillity.

“It’s a cherished home to us and it’s with a heavy heart to sell it but I think anyone else moving into it will love it,” Mrs Porter says. “With the creek flowing through the property, it’s just beautiful and the kids have loved that. We’ve had our children at Pembroke and Saints Girls just around the corner, and it’s been a really lovely location for them to grow up in, and with Hazelwood Park around the corner, it’s just wonderful. I’d dearly love to see another family move in and enjoy that same life we’ve had here. ”
The home is on the market through Matt Smith of Klemich Real Estate.
