A huge recreational space complete with playgrounds, trampolines, suspended rope trails, amphitheatre, off-leash dog park, and fitness zones is about to transform a Queensland suburb.

The Gold Coast’s newest park, which features coastal views and a huge array of new play equipment is officially opening on Friday at SkyRidge in Worongary.

Lorikeet Park will include a huge 500-person amphitheatre and 180-step stair climb along with a range of other custom-designed facilities and play areas.

Project director Chris Alston from CRA Group said the park would be the centrepiece of the SkyRidge community.

“Lorikeet Park has been designed to provide a new outdoor destination for those young and young at heart with two play zones on offer featuring activities for all ages and a lookout location which is sure to become the new selfie spot for the city,” he said.

“One area is designed for thrills with spinning carousels, bouncy trampolines, and a doughnut shaped multi-deck climbing tower and suspended rope agility trails, plus a double cable way flying fox and sky-high adventure tower overlooking the stunning coastline.

“The second area is for younger children with a Rainbow Lorikeet timber play sculpture, the first of its kind in Queensland, surrounded by Lorikeet springers, sand play, inclusive play panels and junior slides to compliment the area and give little ones a sensory-rich place to explore.

“However the standout will be the amphitheatre and stair climb, both of which are one-offs in a setting like this and give the community entertainment and fitness choices.”

The 500-person amphitheatre will provide a purpose-built facility for community events including live performances and movie nights, while the 180-step stair climb rises 30m.

Continuing the SkyRidge tradition, a new quirky art piece has also been installed.

Lorikeet Park will also contain a fully fenced off-leash dog park, BBQ areas and picnic spots, fitness zones and kick-about spaces for all ages and a water play area.

Mr Alston said the park was the second of many after the completion of nearby Gumnut Park.

“We are building a healthy new community around the lifestyle that has made SkyRidge one of Australia’s most desirable places to live,” Mr Alston said.

SkyRidge is expected to be home to more than 10,000 people once completed in 2036.

Currently under construction, the masterplanned community has its own planning code with flexibility and includes provision for small lot residential, traditional home sites through to medium-rise apartment development and non-residential uses such as a neighbourhood retail centre, food and beverage opportunities, retirement and other commercial uses.

The community is already home to dozens of houses and residents.
