A young family can take their time to make updates to a grand Victorian era house on a rare big, north facing block in Geelong West secured in an off-market deal.

McGrath, Newtown agent David Cortous said the Geelong West buyers were among two parties competing for the property before it was to be presented to the wider market.

The home at 26 Candover St sold for $1.775m.

The four-bedroom house is one of two on the street with a 900sq m block, though the only with the rear facing north.

The house is near the Pakington St shopping strip and features a veranda sporting wrought iron lacework.

“It’s a good result and shows that the market is still buoyant for those bigger, landmark properties that have got a good land size in Geelong West,” Mr Cortous said.

“A 900sq m, north rear facing block is hard to find in Geelong West. Candover St is obvious close to Pakington St and has good access to the CBD from that location as well.”

The hopeful buyers were locals, he said.

Mr Cortous said the buyers were moving from a smaller property in Geelong West

26 Candover St, Geelong West has a north-facing back yard.

He last sold the property for $1.38m in 2017.

“It’s a sizeable house and probably would have been renovated about 20 years ago, so it is getting to that age where it’s ready for another makeover.

“But for the people that have bought it, they can live in it as-is and do things as you need,” he said.
