A popular Hills wedding venue, which only last year hosted the nuptials of Adelaide media personality Max Burford and wife Eliza, has been listed for sale with price hopes of over $3m.

Jason and Emily Paech, along with their two children Ava and Lucas, are bidding farewell to Glen Lea Homestead after transforming the Bugle Ranges property into one of the state’s most sought-after wedding venues over the past eight years.

The sale includes the circa 1880s homestead, a fully revamped studio, a three-bed Airbnb, a 140-year-old shearing shed, a full-size grass tennis court, landscaped gardens and plenty of production land for horses or livestock.

The home sits on 30.75ha of land, which also features a grassed tennis court and landscaped gardens.

The homestead’s main living space offers a green outlook and plenty of room to entertain family and friends.

The family currently hosts up to 20 weddings a year, however, Mr Paech – who formerly served as the chief executive officer of Bendigo Jockey Club and operations manager at South Australian Jockey Club – said there was plenty of potential to expand offerings if desired.

“We purchased it originally as a property for horses, having worked in the racing industry, and it was going to be my work-from-home job … but the horses never came and we instead decided to run some cattle and then the wedding business came around by chance,” he said.

“We originally hosted some weddings for friends and then friends of friends and it just snowballed from there and we’ve now been doing this for around five-and-a-half years.

“We originally only planned to do 10 weddings a year but then we partnered with a company called Venyu to run all of our weddings … and we quickly went up to 20 weddings a year from there, which is our hard limit.”

Mr Paech said while the family had enjoyed calling Glen Lea Homestead their own, the time had come for a new adventure.

However, their loss could be someone else’s new beginning, with the property having undergone a top-to-bottom renovation.

Glen Lea Homestead also has a strong facebook and instagram following and was the venue of choice for Channel 10 sports and Mix 102.3 breakfast presenter Max Burford who wed longtime love Eliza Hodgson at the property in March last year.

“The property’s got a lot of flexibility and in terms of weddings,” Mr Paech said.

“It can be as low-maintenance or as hands-on as you’d want it to be as the team at Venyu are fantastic and they can step up to do more or, if the new owner is an experienced wedding industry person, they can just take it all on themselves.

“Hosting weddings is an incredibly satisfying thing to do and we certainly hope that the next owners or custodians of the place continue what we’ve started.”

The property is for sale through Harris Real Estate. Best offers are due by September 25 at noon.
