A Millswood home offers an idyllic family lifestyle close to a range of sought-after amenities, and, with a timeless contemporary extension and renovation, is ready to impress for years to come.

Todd Perry and his wife Katie Williams bought the property at 37 Malcolm St in 2020 when moving back to Adelaide from Sydney and said they quickly fell in love with the home, which was on the market for the first time in around 20 years.

“We were looking to buy a house that was quintessentially Adelaide, with the stonework, the big home and big block, which you don’t get in the eastern states,” Ms Williams says.

“We wanted somewhere where we could entertain our family and all of our friends that we still had in Adelaide.

“We also loved its location.

“It’s just so close to that Hyde Park precinct and also has Heywood Park just around the corner.

“We had younger primary school children at time and it’s a great spot where the kids could ride their bikes really safely around the neighbourhood.

“We occasionally walk two minutes down the road and jump on the train go to the footy, and we’re less than 1km from some fantastic wine bars and cafes. It’s great.”

The 1900-built home sits on a spacious 1672sqm allotment and has up to five bedrooms – or four and a detached retreat or studio – a formal dining/lounge area, a home office, a double garage and a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining and living area that opens to an entertainer’s terrace overlooking a sparkling inground pool with pavilion.

Its clever and practical layout has made it great for their family, Ms Williams says, and an ideal entertainer.

“There are so many entertaining spaces, and that, with that outdoor fire, we can really have it as opened or as closed as we want depending on the weather,” she says.

“Kids love the pool and we used to have families over most weekends – it was the sort of place that our friends would invite themselves over to because they enjoyed being there so much.

“We haven’t had teenage children living here, but it would be a fantastic home for teens, because they’d have their own area.”

Now moving to Queensland for work, the couple say it’s time for someone else to enjoy it like they have.

“It’s over 100 years old and that house will be there for another 200 years – it’s solid and it’s got a great modern floorplan,” Ms Williams says.

“It’s one of a kind house and a very special home, and one that houses a lot of wonderful memories not only for our family but our friends too.

Best offers for the home close at 2pm on September 9.
