NSW’s best display homes: Prestigious building awards crown 2024 designs

The Master Builders Association of New South Wales has announced the state's best display home designs for this year, with winners across a range of price brackets.

The Master Builders Association (MBA) has announced the winners of their NSW Excellence in Housing and Pool Awards, which recognises residential building achievements in the state.

The respected event honours excellence, innovation, and quality within the NSW building and construction industry.

Metricon Homes took out the $1 million and over category with an elegant design featuring a spacious, gourmet kitchen with walk-in pantry.


The winners included Metricon Homes, who took out the $1 million and over category, after a big week which also included their announcement as Australia's biggest home builder for the ninth consecutive year, and partnership with Japan's Sumitomo Forestry Group.

The list of winning builder designs provides an easy jumping off point for those wanting to start the new build process, as they're segmented by budget, starting as low as $450,000 and under.

Winner up to $450,000: Firstyle Homes

Volume builder Firstyle Homes took out the win for homes under $450,000 with their single-level Waverly - Armitage Facade design, noting it's suitable for multi-generational living.

Judges praised the excellent standard of finish for this affordable build option.


"Excellent standard of finish and great value for money incorporating many of the LHA easy living Design Guidelines features," judges commented.

"A house designed for multigenerational living, combining comfort, functionality, and style."

Winner $450,0001 - $550,000: Firstyle Homes

With another win in the affordable category, Firstyle Homes took out top spot for designs up to $550,000 with their Sorento 30.5 - Apollo Facade design.

Showing that you can achieve beauty on a budget, judges praised the two-level Sorrento 30.5 design for its proportionality and curb appeal.


"Great attention to detail; spacious and roomy. The living areas and bedrooms are perfectly proportioned. The clever use of textured finishes gives this home excellent street appeal."

Winner $550,0001 - $650,000: Eden Brae Homes

Eden Brae Homes won with their Savoy 29 - Portofino Facade design for those looking to build around the $600-$650,000 mark.

The interiors in Eden Brae's Savoy 29 design feature use of a void that helps to create a feeling of spaciousness and light within the home.


"The builder’s attention to detail and utilisation of easy-living features are presented in a spacious, airy package. This resulted in a modern, open-plan home that exudes comfort and openness," judges noted.

Winner $650,0001 - $750,000: Kurmond Homes

Kurmond Homes' Melody design was the next category winner, with stylish interiors featuring a curved kitchen island and circular window.

Kurmond's Melody offers contemporary yet warm interiors with character features like a circular window.


"A stylish and expansive residence with a versatile design, allowing all living areas to be favourably oriented on any block of land," judges said.

"Recessed floors in the bathrooms ensure a seamless transition between carpet and tiles."

Winner $750,0001 - $1 million: Allcastle Homes

At the higher end, Allcastle Homes won with their Gallery MKII design.

The modern aesthetic features expansive use of windows, creating height and light, but judges praised the builder's keen attention to detail and creation of a liveable space.

Double-height ceilings in the living area off the kitchen create an airy and spacious feel, and flows out to an alfresco eating area.


"Excellent home: all living areas can be favourably oriented on any block of land. The builder exhibited excellent attention to detail and embraced many features from the Liveable Housing Design Guidelines."

Winner $1 million and over: Metricon Homes

Metricon Homes' took out the pointy end of the budget range with their Vantage 52SL design.

Modern country-coastal with a dash of Hamptons, the elegant double-storey, four-bedroom design offers an intelligent floorplan, feature kitchen and indoor-outdoor entertaining. Metricon told realestate.com.au that the design is also crafted to work well on sloping blocks.

Full of curb appeal and classic charm, the Stamford facade of Metricon's Vantage 52SL design took out the top spot in the top budget category.


"Metricon Homes hit the mark with this design," the judges said.

"The home showcases innovation, high-quality finishes, and excellent attention to detail. All living areas can be favourably oriented on any block, and the incorporation of easy-living features made this home a pleasure to inspect."
