The residential neighbourhood of President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club is quickly becoming a real estate hotspot, notching its fifth sale since the middle of December.

A five-bedroom, Georgian-style estate at 153 Kings Rd – just a two minute drive from the famous private resort – has become the latest sale in the popular Palm Beach, Florida locale, selling for US$14m (AU$22.25m).

Two other nearby homes are also currently under offer.

According to Realtor.com, the Kings Rd home had been on-and-off the market since 2021.

At its peak during the Covid pandemic, it was listed with a price guide of US$21.9m (AU$34.8m).

The 631sqm estate comes with 6.5 baths, a double-height foyer, a chef’s kitchen with stainless steel countertops and two of everything, including refrigerators, butler’s pantry, formal dining area, media room, library, wet bar, and resort-style pool area.

It also comes with its own renown.

“Built in 2009 by famed architect Tom Kirchhoff and tastefully designed by Colefax and Fowler, the home was featured in ‘The Pearls of Palm Beach’ by Holly Holden,” the listing ad read.

Gary Pohrer, of The Exclusive Group at Douglas Elliman, told Realtor.com that with a sitting president having a residence nearby, home sales in the security zone had spiked.

Listings data shows two other properties in the tightly guarded zone are also currently under contract.

“Some buyers may see proximity to the president’s club as a draw, whether for social access, security considerations, or simply the prestige of owning in a high-profile area,” he said.

The sellers were reportedly Lori Bernstein, who runs home goods store Lori Jayne Monogramming and More in Palm Beach, and her husband, businessman Michael Bernstein.

Everybody needs good neighbours

Australian billionaire James Packer and avid Trump supporter is among a host of new residents set to move into the President’s Florida backyard.

The 57-year-old has taken a lease on a multimillion-dollar home that backs onto Mr Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

The billionaire’s new Palm Beach home has not been identified, however insiders point to a property that was listed for sale in January for A$23m.

James Packer has taken a lease on a multimillion-dollar home that backs onto Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

The property borders the Trump residence as well as the Mar-a-Lago private club and is believed to be owned by Mr Trump who bought a number of properties in nearby Woodbridge Road.

In an article published by Forbes earlier this year, Mr Packer will join at least 50 other billionaires and celebrities, worth a combined $500 billion, who keep a home (or home away from home) in Trump’s neighbourhood.

Noteworthy names include Nelson Peltz, father of Nicola Peltz who is married to Brooklyn Beckham, fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger, rock stat Rod Stewart, and movie icon and Trump supporter Sylvester Stallone.

What it’s like living in a Presidential security zone

The presidential security zone runs north of Mar-a-Lago for seven blocks, or just under 1km, to South County Road.

When Trump or his family is in town, the road is open only to property owners or their authorised representatives or workers.

Due to its restrictions, walking routes of nearby homes are also not mapped by Google and traffic is regularly rerouted in the area.

Airspace is also always restricted over the club but expands with temporary flight restricts (TFRs) when the president is in residence.

“No person may operate an aircraft over or in the vicinity of any area to be visited or travelled by the President, the Vice President, or other public figures contrary to the restrictions established by the FAA and published in a NOTAM,” the FAA told NBC Miami.

The area directly north of Mar-A-Lago is a Trump security zone.

There are even restricted areas on the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean, enforced by the Coast Guard.

While some homeowners might not want to run the risk of having their day-to-day life impeded on in any way, others don’t mind it.

“The neighbourhood north of Mar-a-Lago has seen steady demand over the years,” Pohrer told Realtor.com.
