A Hindmarsh Island home with its own in-house mooring is a boat owner’s heaven and is ready to delight its next owner.
Roonie built the stunning home on the 465 Randell Rd property she had owned since 2006, with the process starting in November 2017 and finishing in February 2019.
“There are two cottages on the property – I used to live in one of them and then the children used to live in the other when they came to visit, but they kept expanding and having children, and so we added the boathouse,” Roonie says.

“Even though, all up, we have room for 20, we still often set up the camper trailer and the boat for extra accommodation so we can all fit in, which is a lot of fun.
“The children bring all of the grandchildren and we play petanque and volleyball and swim and surf at the beach – it’s just a beautiful lifestyle.
“And it’s a wonderful location too – the town is laid back and has a strong community feel, and I love that we can sit back and watch the birds fly by at eye level from the bedroom and living area. It’s gorgeous.”
The boathouse has a single bedroom with a dressing room and ensuite; an open-plan kitchen, living and dining room, and an expansive balcony and veranda area on its upper level, while an in-house mooring and garage sit below.
“I first saw that on the lakes in Canada and fell in love with the idea of having the boat under the house,” Roonie says.
“These old timber boats – we’re just custodians of them and they should last a lifetime if you love them and look after them, but I’m just not very good at taking covers on and off. When I saw these houses I thought it was a beautiful way to go.
“We’ll often do a big journey up the river to the New South Wales border. Coming home, no matter what the weather or how late it is, you can just pull inside, turn on the lights and everything’s at your fingertips – it’s very beautiful.”
The property is also home to two cottages – a three bedder and a two-bedder – and has a private dock and a sparkling inground pool. Now moving onto an overseas adventure with her partner Chris, Roonie says it is time for someone else to love the home as she and her family have.
“It has a lot of wonderful elements borrowed from places I’ve been with my travels, and I wanted it to be really functional and it is,” she says.
“We’re very proud of it and it really is the most special place to live.
“We’re really going to miss it when it comes timeto say goodbye to it.”
