The backyard at 211A Gordon St, Coburg, provided many fond memories for Kit Tong and his family.

For Kit Tong, his partner Rebecca Murray and two kids Evie and Isaac their Coburg property has been a safe haven.

But after a decade living in the home, Mr Tong made the emotional decision to sell, and their two-bedroom, two-bathroom townhouse at 211A Gordon St, Coburg, sparked a two-party bidding battle as it went under the hammer on Saturday.

The auction commenced with a $670,000 first bid, and within two minutes had quickly jumped to $815,000, where it finally sold.

The home sold for $67,000 more than the home’s price guide of $680,000-$748,000.

“This is a very emotional for me, selling our very first home,” Mr Tong said.

Happy vendor Kit Tong said the way his family have styled the home is a reflection of the way his family lives and their values.

“When I look around our home it is our peace and our Zen — it’s where our friends and family come together around the smoker and have a nice barbecue.”

Mr Tong said when styling and doing works around the home he wanted to make it as functional as possible for his family.

“When you take the kids’ bedroom for example, it’s a huge space where the kids have space to play, do their homework and have their bed on the top – I wish I had a bed like that when I was younger,” he said.

“The way we have styled this house is a reflection of the way our family lives and our values – you have to have fun in life; home is your safe haven.”

Mr Tong said a highlight of his selling journey was having a good banter with Ray White Brunswick’s Abdul Allouche.

“I would say to anyone who is selling their home and has an emotional attachment to the home to pick your agent wisely,” he said.

The bunk bed, study and play space was a dream set-up for proud parents Kit Tong and Rebecca Murray

“It was never just monetary value to me, with Abdul he supported us and provided the clarity and transparency we needed as a first-time seller.

“Now that we’ve sold we can move to a bigger home – I want to look after my family and my parents, giving back to them and taking care of the older generation is something that is very important to me.”

Mr Tong said he hoped the new owners would appreciate the home as much as he did and create treasured memories of their own.

Ray White Brunswick’s Abdul Allouche said getting the property prepared and having a game plan was key to an auction’s success.

“The vendors did a great job in following the advice I gave them to achieve the best price possible,” Mr Allouche said. “Family homes are in demand, if it’s presented right it’ll sell.”
