McCrae hill home with bay views hits market for $2.6m after reno

4 hours ago 1

This contemporary residence with street presence sits on a private, treed corner of the sought-after McCrae hill, offering sweeping bay views across its two levels.

The vendors were initially drawn to the three-bedroom house for its location, especially “the view and the calm atmosphere of the area and natural surroundings”, and the fact that the 929sq m property is still close to all the amenities.

With the aim of renovating and selling the residence at 31 Bayview Rd, the vendors quickly realised the project would ultimately yield something special.

“The house was originally a solid brick quality built home from the 1970s, I believe, so we immediately knew it would be worth spending whatever was needed to bring it back to life,” the vendor says.

The house was originally a solid brick quality built home from the 1970s.

The vendors imported soundproof German windows that flood the interiors with natural light.

“Peter Niven from Niven Builders worked along with us to design and make the most of the beautiful views.

“The builder was a local family friend, Greg Gilmour from Gilmour Builders, who has worked on other projects for us over the years.”

Sparing no expense, the vendors imported soundproof German windows that flood the interiors with natural light while capturing the surrounding treetop and bay vistas, all with exceptional energy efficiency.

“The large main picture window in the kitchen-living room that draws you to the view of the beautiful Port Phillip Bay and the surrounding native bush,” the vendor says.

While the vendors originally planned to sell the property after completing the renovation, it proved difficult to sell once it was complete.

“When completed, we couldn’t part with it,” the vendor explains.

The property offers sweeping bay views across its two levels.

Some of the standout features include the thoughtful zoned design.

The home has been listed with a price guide of $2.6m.

Ultimately, they have rented the property out, primarily as a holiday home, which both the vendors and the listing agent, Meagan Mulder from Granger, say is ideal for that purpose.

“The majority of buyers we are meeting at the moment are from the city looking for a holiday home, and then somewhere they can relocate to permanently down the track. I believe this house will suit that demographic,” Mulder says.

“Purchasers are not wanting to spend money on updating houses at the moment.

“They are worried about the building costs, so having a home where all of the hard work has been done to this calibre, is a rare find.”

Some of the standout features include the thoughtful zoned design, three bedrooms, each with its own ensuite, ducted underfloor heating and cooling and the showstopping curved staircase.

“The staircase in the entry always amazes guests,” the vendors say.

31 Bayview Rd, McCrae, is for sale through Granger in McCrae, with a price guide of $2.6m.
