Kailo House’s bold black façade makes a striking statement against lush bushland, yet this luxury home was designed to flow first and foremost with the landscape of the idyllic Gold Coast Hinterland.
Perched on a natural ridgeline, the newly completed home is framed by uninterrupted views, east to Tomewin Mountain, and west to the peaks bordering Tallebudgera Valley.
Owners Joshua and Michelle Allen purchased the 4.05ha Currumbin Valley parcel in 2019, allowing themselves time to refine a design that would do justice to the stunning natural surrounds.

“We camped on the site in different seasons to really get a feel for the area and to understand how to best take advantage of everything the site has to offer,” Ms Allen said.
“We drew inspiration from the natural landscape and designed a house that mimicked the ridgeline we built it on and almost disappeared into the trees.”
Kailo House – the name translates to ‘narrow spit of land’ – is listed for auction on March 22 through Coastal agent Emisha Canning.
The home at 1002B Currumbin Creek Rd was the vendors’ first major project, with Ms Allen, a visual merchandiser, drawing on her background in fashion to oversee the design.

A statement in style with sleek black and timber accents
She and Mr Allen, a recruitment industry professional, moved from Brisbane with their children, Harper, 10, Eli, 7, and Freya, 1.
A study in both contrast and cohesion, Kailo House’s dark exterior allows it to recede into the landscape, while extensive glazing and louvred windows flood interiors with natural light.
“We really wanted to design something that was sympathetic to the environment and also really connected us to it,” Ms Allen said.
“We chose black for the house so that it blended more seamlessly into the environment.
“The glass doors and large windows run down both sides of the house and really provide that connection to the outdoors.”
