The executors of the estate of the late talkback radio broadcaster John Laws, who died last November, are soon set to hold five content auctions.

Offering his collection of fine art, fine furniture and interiors, books, motor cars and watches, the luxury contents will be on view in late May at the expansive Woolloomooloo Wharf home of John and his wife Caroline, who died in February 2020.

The auctions start June 2 and run until June 12.

“With a passion for collecting which spanned more than five decades, the collection of John Laws holds exceptional works and objects,” Bonhams has advised its clients.

Laws, who was one of Australia’s highest-paid radio personalities having begun on radio in 1953, left the bulk of his multimillion-dollar estate to be split equally among his five children and four stepchildren.

He also left a provision for Jodee Borgo, his personal assistant, known through her three decades as one of his acclaimed handmaidens, by paying off what remained of a $600,000 loan he gave her in 2002 to buy a Double Bay apartment for $1,060,000.

Borgo is an executor along with the lawyer Jim Harrowell at Hunt & Hunt.

Some 10 art works have been gifted to the Art Gallery of NSW, including two paintings by Rupert Bunny.

No word yet on the listing of the 2000-built apartment space they secured in the modern apartment complex on the tip of the historic $275m redevelopment rescued from demolition in 1991.

Built between 1910 and 1914, the wharf, at 401m long, is the longest timber-piled wharf in the world, having been the main berth for overseas passenger liners.

Laws bought his initial 258sq m patio apartment which included two car spaces and a marina berth for $3m in 2000 from stockbroker David Trude who had bought off the plan for $2.25m.

They then added much more space.
