The Geelong home of former Skyhooks guitarist Bob “Bongo” Starkie is set to become a hit with potential buyers after it was listed for sale.

The Edwardian era house at 17 Foster St, South Geelong, has been held in the Starkie family for several generations, with the guitarist calling it home during the past decade.
Starkie, who joined Skyhooks in 1973, discovered he had acute myeloid leukaemia in late January 2025 and was immediately admitted to hospital in Geelong and started treatment.

The lead guitarist had been keeping Skyhooks’ musical legacy alive with his Bob ‘Bongo’ Starkie’s Skyhooks Shows.
He died last November aged 73.

Wilsons Geelong agent James Osborne said the property had initially been purchased as a city residence by Bongo’s grandparents, who owned a farm at Apollo Bay.

Mr Osborne has listed the home with price hopes from $1.15m to $1.2m.

The three-bedroom Edwardian era home at 17 Foster St, South Geelong, is listed with a price guide of $1.15m to $1.2m.

Substantial glazing in the rear open-plan living area draws plenty of light into the home.

The house features polished floorboards, high ceilings and an open living area that connects to an outdoor entertainment zone.

“We’ve had a couple of opens now and good numbers,” he said.

“It’s bigger than what it looks. The rooms are generous size and the double garage is expansive, but you’ve also got a yard that you can work with too.
“Being single level we’ve had young families but also older downsizers look at it because it’s flat, and there’s easy access to everything.”

The home occupies a 486sq m block with rear access that’s barely a drop punt from GMHBA Stadium.

The double garage offers substantial storage space.

The home retains character features, such as high ceilings.

“You can move in and if you want to upgrade it over time you can do that,” Mr Osborne said. “But it’s not one of those homes where it needs to work straight away.”

Skyhooks was an iconic Australian band thanks to their albums including Living In the ‘70s and Ego Is Not A Dirty Word.

Their hits included Living in the ‘70s, Horror Movie, All My Friends Are Getting Married, Ego Is Not A Dirty Word, Blue Jeans, Women In Uniform, Million Dollar Riff and Jukebox In Siberia.
