With its deteriorating exterior, peeling and water stained walls, this country SA manor would be right at home in a Hitchcock classic.

But that could all be about to change, with the Queen-Anne Victorian residence at 15 Pine St – believed to be one of the first homes of Peterborough – having been snatched up for a song after 103 days on the market.

Selling agent Alison Ward of Elders Real Estate Jamestown said the early 1900s estate sold to a buyer from Burra for 98,000, after much interest from locals and interstate.

“The fellow who bought it plans to restore it and actually started on it the day it settled. A masonry is already working on the house,” she said.

“He plans to restore the main part of the home which is all sandstone and in the back, create a self-contained apartment for himself.

“The restoration will cost him a lot of money but he’s fairly keen and once he gets a bathroom in there – it doesn’t have one at the moment and there’s also no kitchen – he plans to sell his house in Burra and officially move in.”

Ms Ward said the home sold with HIA and Heritage orders in place, meaning the property was largely deemed uninhabitable and could only have been rented for $15 a week.

Despite its derelict appearance, the home oozes with charm from another era.

The residence is adorned with intricate details throughout and crowned by a pressed metal tower atop the entrance porch.

Comprising a grand entry and hallway, the floorplan once comprised four large main bedrooms, as well as a separate study, living, dining and kitchen.

Original features include high pressed metal ceilings, original leadlight windows, ornate fireplaces and original floorboards.

“So many people were attracted to it and we had plenty of offers but many of those offers were subject to finance or the sale of another property,” Ms Ward said.

“But I think it’s still a very good result and I can’t wait to see what the buyer does with it.”
