Inside Port Adelaide star Jeremy Finlayson and wife Kellie’s Hendon home

It was meant to be their forever home, but now Port Adelaide star forward and ruck Jeremy Finlayson and his podcaster wife Kellie are selling their Hendon property as they prepare to bravely fight her next health battle together.

The couple, both 28, bought their Hendon home in May, 2022, attracted by the property’s character charm and proximity to the Port Adelaide Football Club.

“I really wanted a heritage home, like a villa with hardwood floors, and this one was in really good condition,” Kellie says.

“It’s got the world’s biggest backyard, and we wanted to extend but with my health that didn’t happen.”

Sadly, the progression of Kellie’s colon cancer means the family now need a place with more space for Kellie’s in-home care, and, now renting a property that will allow them to do that, the time has come to say goodbye to their dream home.

“This was to be our forever home, but I guess life had other plans,” Kellie says.

Finlayson recently found out her cancer had spread to her lung, and she is currently undergoing chemotherapy for it.

Her illness has meant a lot of time at home, and in between treatments, the couple have updated the property throughout, taking it from a colourful canvas to a more considered and classic black and white theme.

Fitting, really, given her husband’s Port Adelaide ties.

“I was in one of my good weeks when we did the move so I got to be involved, and we set it up as fast as we could, so that I was able to rest and recover from that major surgery at the end of June,” Kellie says.

The home offers some 108sqm of living space over its single level and has three bathrooms, with the master suite complete with a fireplace and an airconditioner.

A sun-drenched lounge sits at the front of the home and also has a fireplace, while towards the rear you’ll find the eat-in kitchen and meals area that also flows to the lounge.

A bathroom with a bath with overhead shower, a toilet and a bidet sits in the heart of the home, while a laundry and second toilet sits at the rear and opens to a spacious rear yard with a 5m x 9.2m garage and workshop.

The home offers easy access to a range of handy amenities including West Lakes Shore, while public transport is also nearby.

“We really loved it here and this really was our dream home, but life changes,” Kellie says.

“This was the first home we bought together so there’s enormous sentimental attachment there.”

The couple had plans to extend the home – something selling agent Rachel Lawrie of Ray White North Adelaide says could elevate the beautiful property further.

“With a huge amount of further potential to extend (subject to council consent) and bring the large back yard further to life for all the family to enjoy, it just makes this gorgeous family home even more attractive.”

Ms Lawrie says there was a large demand from buyers in this area for homes with potential and affordability.

“It’s got original characteristics, plus a large backyard and good sized garage,” she says.

“Hendon is a suburb on the rise due to its affordability and being centrally located to the city and beach.”

Advertised without a price guide through Rachel Lawrie of Ray White North Adelaide, the 5 Vickers Ave home will be auctioned on September 24.
