A modern Bali-themed residence with open spaces that flow out to a sprawling entertaining area has hit the Darwin property market, and it even has a granny flat and a triple-car garage.

Owners Lance and Denise Oliver built the house at 9 Coorong Ct, Stuart Park 10 years ago, to bring together everything they loved about Baline style and Top End living.

“We built it for ourselves,” Mr Oliver said.

“I’ve been in the building game for 50 years and spent 25 years in civil engineering.

“From my experience of building and the travel I’ve done, I knew what I wanted.

“I always wanted a Bali bathroom and now I’ve got one, and I always wanted a red kitchen and now I’ve got one.”

Mr Oliver said the home was built around the Darwin climate, and made the most of the 1000 sqm block, with the spacious house wrapping around a big entertaining area.

“It’s very cool and breezy,” he said.

“When people do come in here, they’re surprised how the breeze really does flow through the house.”

The home is spread across two levels and features high ceilings, banks of louvres and Balinese accents throughout.

On the ground floor there is a triple lockup garage, an entryway and a self-contained granny flat.

The granny flat has a private entry, patio, open plan living and kitchen and a bedrooms with ensuite.

Internal stairs lead up to the open plan living, dining and kitchen area, which flows out to the front deck and the outdoor entertaining area.

The red kitchen features high shine cabinetry, stone countertops, breakfast bar and stainless steel appliances.

“My kitchen is built to be user friendly because I love cooking,” Mr Oliver said.

Off the living space, there are two bedrooms, both with built-in robes, a bathroom, a separate toilet and a home theatre.

In a separate wing, the main bedroom has a big walk-in robe and a luxurious Balinese-themed ensuite with freestanding tub, pebble floor, dual basins, an open shower and picture window looking out to a water feature courtyard.

The huge outdoor area includes a heated in-ground pool, covered seating area and an outdoor kitchen with built-in cabinetry.

“There’s a roof over the pool with a gap between the roof and the wall to create ventilation,” Mr Oliver said.

“When there’s not a breath of wind, I still get breeze through there.

“It’s called capillary action – all that means is (the breeze) is going around in circles.

“It was built to do that and it works – I was pretty impressed.”

Mr Oliver said the interior design was down to his wife’s good taste while the Balinese accents were all made in Bali, including the stonework above the pool and in the ensuite.

“I knew what I wanted and knew where I could get it from, just the process of getting it and installing it took some time,” he said.

“I brought it all back bits at a time.

“I’d draw it up, they’d make it and I’d bring it home.”

Mr Oliver said the home was perfect for entertaining and enjoying the Darwin weather, while the granny flat could be an extra income stream for the next owner.

“If they were to get smart and rent it out over the V8s and the race round, they could make some good money,” he said.

Tucked away in Stuart Park, the home is close to the city and the coastline, and has easy access to major arterial roads.
