The force behind Australia’s largest Accor Hotels franchise has put his architectural masterpiece on the market, complete with a rooftop terrace and Palm Springs-inspired pool.
Queensland property developer and hotelier Scott Flynn has listed his family’s home – Z House – at 37 Hawthorne St in New Farm, Brisbane, with the Shaun Lockyer-designed masterpiece to go under the hammer on May 23.
And it should come as no surprise that the home has resort-style vibes.
“The third-storey rooftop feels like a complete escape – a place where you can look out over the city and feel entirely connected to the energy of Brisbane, yet perfectly tucked away in your own private world,” Mr Flynn said.
“Seeing the sun set behind the CBD towers while you’re floating in the glass pool is a pretty surreal moment; it turns the whole house into a living gallery of the skyline.”
37 Hawthorne St New Farm will go to auction on May 23
Originally built over a century ago, the home was reimagined eight years ago when the property was transformed from a humble inter-war cottage into the stunning two-level, five-bedroom home it is now.
The view from the rooftop
The residence has breathtaking 360-degree rooftop vista across New Farm, Newstead, Kangaroo Point and the CBD, and the glass-sided swimming pool mirrors the glamour of a Palm Springs retreat.
Indoor/outdoor living is easy
“Shaun Lockyer is just so interesting in the way he uses materials, and the floorplan of this house is fantastic,” Mr Flynn said.
“It’s functional, perfect for entertaining and very, very easy to live in.”
Inside, the home is configured into two distinct living zones – one oriented around the kids, one around entertaining – a layout Mr Flynn said has served his family “exceptionally well”.

Upstairs is home to four of the five bedrooms including the spacious master retreat boasting city views, along with a dedicated study and lounge area.
Downstairs is a double garage, guest bedroom, living room, and an open plan dining and kitchen area leading to the covered entertaining deck with outdoor kitchen.
“We spend a lot of time in the central area where there’s the kitchen, living area and dining space and from there you head out to the alfresco area and the pool,” Mr Flynn said
“The inside becomes outside and when those bi-folds are drawn back, it becomes one big living area.”

The stunning kitchen
The design effortlessly blends the traditional with the modern, and features soaring voids, signature skylights and recessed stacker doors that invite the outdoors in.
“No expense was spared in building this house,” Mr Flynn said.
“The building specs and materials are just next level and it has the most beautiful fixtures and finishes.”
Beyond the house is the pool with a viewing window, a fire pit, and a golf putting green.

Mr Flynn, his partner Kelly and four children have lived in the five-bedroom New Farm residence for three years, and are moving to another home in the suburb.
The property is a five-minute walk to Merthyr Village and close to New Farm Park, the riverwalk and the CityCat ferry.
“New Farm typically has smaller blocks, but this has an 810sq m block and a fantastic swimming pool with glass window,” Mr Flynn said.
“And it’s brilliant for entertaining.
“You can have the kids watching a movie upstairs in the second lounge and the adults downstairs and everyone has their own space.”
Inspired by Palm Springs
The property is jointly listed with Damon Warat of Ray White Ascot and Simon Caulfield of Place Kangaroo Point.
