172 Tierney Dr, Currumbin Waters

This award-winning home was designed to blend into its bush surrounds, yet it stands out as a unique modern offering for Gold Coast home hunters.

Described as a “designer retreat”, the five-bedroom, two-bathroom residence in a tranquil Currumbin Waters location is expected to draw a well-heeled crowd when it goes under the hammer on August 16.

The property’s low-set street frontage of concrete block allows a thick rear canopy of trees to remain the hero.

Statement kitchen bnechtop and custom timber cabinetry

Inside, beautiful timber joinery and classic Carrara marble grace a carefully considered single-level floorplan which opens out onto a private pool and al fresco area.

A wall of windows surrounds the living space, framing the stunning natural outlook, while native wildlife including wallabies and koalas are frequent visitors.

Marketing agent Emisha Canning, of Coastal, said she had fielded a high level of inquiry through the three-week sale campaign, with a number of high-profile buyers among those tipped to register to bid on auction day.

The home has five bedrooms

…and two bathrooms

“It is a secluded and stylish sanctuary, hidden from the street and spanning one easy-care level,” Ms Canning said.

“This property exudes tranquillity and feels like an oasis, but you have the best of both worlds, with a boutique acre block between Currumbin Beach and the Valley.”

Built in 2017 on a sloping 4,464 sqm parcel, the house at 172 Tierney Dr was designed by local architect Matthew Eagle and has claimed a slew of awards, including the Australian Institute of Architects Gold Coast people’s choice.

Home features include a sleek kitchen with black benchtop, a large butler’s pantry, and premium appliances, as well as a master bedroom with walk-through robe and day spa-worthy ensuite with freestanding bath.

Ms Canning said the house was ideal for a buyer seeking privacy and offered a large study with a separate entrance, ideal for working from home.

It was also ideal for families, incorporating clever in-built storage and located close to parks and the popular Currumbin Rock Pools.

The auction follows the $5.6m sale under the hammer of a luxury eco-home known as Kingfisher House, just up the street at 122 Tierney Dr.

The sellers, Sean Triner and Christiana Stergiou, had purchased the block in 2020 and tasked Peter McArdle, of PTMA Architecture, to come up with an energy efficient and carbon neutral design.

The home was completed in 2022 and featured in Sustainable House Day and the Gold Coast Open House architectural festival.

Low profile

Standout features included an innovative courtyard, integrated insect screens and an indoor-outdoor pond.

PropTrack data shows house prices in Currumbin Waters were up 15 per cent over the past 12 months, to a median of $1.35m.
