A historic North Hobart has captured more attention online this year than any other Tasmanian property.

Listed for sale with Peterswald, Elphinstone Rd’s Holten is a property overflowing with the elegance and charm of the 1880s.

This timeless property is framed by manicured hedges and ornamental trees.

It features a veranda, Baltic pine floors, sandstone walls, original stained-glass, high ceilings and ornate cornices.

In Holten’s listing, agent Kim Morgan said the home’s period details “create a rich tapestry of historic beauty, seamlessly integrated with modern updates for contemporary living”.

No.8 Elphinstone Rd attracted over 23,000 views on realestate.com.au.

It was sold in spring for an undisclosed price.

With over 22,000 views, Hobart’s next most popular home was a riverside modern marvel.

No.3/806 Sandy Bay Road, Sandy Bay also sold in spring for an undisclosed price.

The three-level property was sold by EIS Property’s Nyal Merdivenci and Leonie Nyhouse, who describe it as “exceptional” and a “rare sanctuary where luxury meets the water”.

Mr Merdivenci said being so close to the river is a dream that many people aspire to.

“The outlook is panoramic, it is breathtaking,” he said.

“The lifestyle here is truly something special.”

Both of these homes are prime examples of what can get property lovers excited — even when coming from vastly different eras and styles of architecture.

REA economist Eleanor Creagh said the listings with the most views were homes “people love to look at”, rather than ones they intended to buy.

“Viral listings tend to be aspirational, with a wow factor or something unusual, whether that’s dramatic views, luxury price points, architectural design, big blocks, or a property that feels more like a resort than a home,” she said.

Many of the homes in Hobart’s Top 10 list were listed and sold for six-figure sums — but not all of them.

The city’s third-most popular house this year — 22,219 views — was a modern family home in Mount Nelson with sleek interiors and a leafy outlook.

Nest Property’s Gary Reeves sold No.610A Nelson Rd for $810,000 in September.

And in ninth position, No.17 Lochner St, West Hobart is priced at “Offers over $899,000”.

Crowther Richards managing director Neville Crowther describes this 1800s farmhouse in the city as ready for an “energetic renovator to revive her to her former glory”.
