14 Spinebill St, Burleigh Waters is going to auction.

A Burleigh Waters bargain has been transformed into a stunning coastal masterpiece, combining chic retro lines with a whole host of modern luxury.

Building company director Peter Hinds and his artist wife Kelly bought 14 Spinebill St back in 2021.

At the time it was a 1980s home that came with a heavily discounted price tag and a lot of interest from potential buyers.

“Over 200 people turned up to the only open home, with a line about 50m long just to get into the property,” Mr Hinds said.

“But the house had structural issues, and it became apparent a ‘quick reno’ was not going to be an option.”

Instead, a full knock down and rebuild was required, but Mr Hinds was up for the challenge.

The couple set about designing a spacious, single level family home that would maximise every centimetre of the large 840sq m block.

“We lived in the old house for a while as that always helps with working out the aspect, prevailing winds, sunlight, and design,” Mr Hinds said.

“From there we created a first draft of what we believed would take advantage of everything the block had to offer, then we brought in Michael Tomlinson of Mi Design Studio to work his magic.”

The result is a spacious five-bedroom home, complete with multiple living areas and outdoor entertaining spaces, a swimming pool, spa, outdoor firepit and an astounding six-car garage.

“You can park six small cars in that garage, or a boat and caravan, along with storing all your bikes, surfboards and surf skis in there,” Mr Hinds said. “All the tradies working on the site just loved that garage and said every house should have a garage this big.”

Inside, the property boasts a light interior, with natural accents, including timber flooring and a curved stone feature wall, with fireplace built in. The kitchen is the heart of the home, boasting stone benchtops, natural oak cabinetry, brushed brass finishes, and a butler’s pantry.

Indoor living areas effortlessly transition to the outdoors, where the covered entertaining area with kitchen overlooks the swimming pool and also leads out to a firepit with built-in seating.

“The firepit was actually something we added towards the end of the build as we felt it would fit nicely into that area, and it’s just so comfortable sitting there in the evenings,” Mr Hinds said.

From the layout to the fittings and fixtures, every element of the house has been carefully considered in a bid to create a comfortable and spacious contemporary home.

“When you walk in, it just expands into this living area with all this natural light and high ceilings and it feels like a huge amount of space,” Mr Hinds said.

“If you’re entertaining in the property, there’s plenty of room to spread out, especially with the way it opens out to the al fresco and pool area.”

The build was completed in November 2024, offering buyers the chance to bypass the construction phase and move straight into a near new home.

The property is listed with Troy Fitzgerald and James Gien of Ray White Malan & Co, and is set to go to auction on April 4
