Former NRL player Jon Green has sold his renovated Murarrie home for nearly three times what he bought it for in 2019.

The ex-Brisbane Broncos player and his family bought the home to fit his growing family, adding extra space to turn it into an ideal home for his three kids.

The renovations at 8 Ballandean St, Murarrie, included a completely redone floor, a brand-new kitchen, and turning the previous driveway into extra room within the house.

The entrance has also been upgraded to give the home more parking space, and a pool was added around the back of the five-bedroom, two-bathroom home.

Place Gumdale agent Kristine Krienke said the Greens had planned to make their house their permanent home, but found it wasn’t quite big enough for the active family.

“They renovated the home to live there long-term,” she said. “They loved living there; they just needed more space.”

A crowd of thirty gathered to see the auction play out, from neighbours to a couple of NRL coaches, there to support the Greens.

This is what the home looked like in 2019, before Jon Green and his family transformed the place in a sprawling renovation.

With four registered bidders, the Greens “eagerly” sat in the front room as bidding began at $1 million dollars.

Bidding started slow as the price was slowly raised up to $1.35 million, when it was placed on the market, the pace quickly picking up between three active bidders battling it out.

One bidder was priced out at $1.427 million, leaving two remaining contenders to fight over the final price.

“It was very tense,” Ms Krienke said, with some bidders frustrated at the auction’s pace.

Eleven bids went back and forth between the last two bidders with increases of $1,000. The winner was able to snag the home with a final raise of $5,000, and the home sold under the hammer for $1.47 million.

The winning buyers were a young couple who just got married, looking for a home where they could start a family.

“It was so nice afterwards, because there were so many neighbours,” Ms Krienke said. “[They] came over and chatted to them to congratulate them.”

“It’s a beautiful home, and a lovely couple have bought it, and we’re excited for them to move in.”

Meanwhile, the Greens were very happy with the sale, planning to use the money to upsize the next home for their growing kids.

“It means that they can put [more] money into their new place,” Ms Krienke said.
